We’ve made a hell of a lot of beers since 1996. Probably thousands at this point. Some stick around for decades, somefor a few years and some are brief visits, gracing us with their hoppy presence fora short time before becoming fond memories. Occasionally stars, planets and brewing schedules align and we bring back one of these ephemeral creations. In fallof 2014 we created a draft-only version of this delicious double India pale ale. Its bitter, zesty grapefruit peel infusion created a bright accent to flavors of pine resin and fresh citrus well in advance of the explosionof fruited beers we’re all reveling in atthe moment. We never stopped thinking about it, so a long five years later, we’re bringing back Stone Grapefruit Slam IPA for round two. It’s a link to the past planted delightfully in the present.

22-03-19 // on tap at Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens - his is the new 2019 version and not the Stochasticity Project anymore. Unlcear dark orange, glowing. White head. Fruit hop nose, citrus. Malty backbone. Very dry, dry citrus and grapefruit notes. Bitter. Smacking.

The Aromas are pine resin and a little grapefruit hops with some pale malt. Flavors are like nose slightly more bitter than sweet Nothing remarkable. Good carbonation and okay body. Drinkable but I wouldn't seek it out.

No doubting the grapefruit; huge amount of citrus on the nose, while the taste aims for a straightforward West Coast IPA with a strong grapefruit bitterness on the finish. Caramel and pine form the base, orange and mild mango-papaya notes on the periphery, but this is a well-made grapefruit beer through-and-through. If only I liked grapefruit...

Pours hazy orange with a one finger head. It smells of hops and of course plenty of grapefruit. The flavor is full of hops with ample grapefruit and some resin along with a pretty solid malt backing. Full disclosure: I don't even like grapefruit. I still enjoy IPAs with some grapefruit notes from the hops, but eating a grapefruit or drinking a grapefruit radler as I did once? Yuck. So that makes me perhaps not enjoy this quite as much as most of Stone's superb IIPAs, but it's still very good.

2019 can Grapefruit Slam release from Craft Brewed. Pours a clear orange-gold with a full finger and half of foam that lingers. Pungent ruby red grapefruit aromas with light caramel, pine, lemon zest and pithy grapefruit as it warms. Ruby red grapefruit flesh and juice on the palate with more pithy bitterness as it moves toward the finish. Some toasted caramel notes, but the grapefruit is the star. More grapefruit zest, juice and pith on the finish with some light caramel. Solid grapefruit IPA.

22oz bottle pours out a orangish amber topped with a sand head. Nose is nice grapefruit citrus hops kick along with some nice bread malts. Taste is more of the grapefruit citrus and a well balanced malt.
