Growler acquired and shared by beastiefan2k. Pour is mostly clear copper brown with a slight reddish tinge and a one inch off white head that falls with nice lacing. Aroma is initially soft sweet cherry, followed by some roast, and then toasty rye bread underneath that. The sweetness in the nose clears pretty quickly, focusing more towards the malt and rye. Fresh and clean. Taste is lightly sweet malt, toasty roasty malt and the mild rye bread element in the finish. Nicely integrated flavors, as with the nose, the taste is fresh and clean. The sweetness jumps out a bit more than I would like. Palate is medium bodied, nice soft carbonation and a dry mineral finish. Nice one, thanks for sharing Eugene.

With a name like "Dark Rye" I imagined a beer that was rye-centric and dark in color. Maybe it would even have some characteristics of dark malts. Imagine my surprise when I get a hop-centric beer that is amber in color. There was a bit more spiciness coming off the beer but you could have called this an amber and no one would know the difference. Shaker @ the brewpub.
Not sure what was going on the first time but I got a growler to share and that was better. A definite rye aspect with sweet yet spiciness abundant. Nothing to blow your top on but a decent beer.
