Around the brewery, we listen to a lot of reggae, drink a fair share of coffee, and are devoted to our barrel aging program. In 2015, we had a one off imperial stout aging in barrels for close to a year. These barrels had a rich chocolate vanilla character, but needed a boost. Stauf’s Coffee Roasters, of Columbus Ohio, nailed the perfect roast on some authentic Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee, to compliment the barrel aged stout. Champion Ground was born! The Illustration on the label is of Charlie Ace’s Swing-a-ling mobile record shack which was notorious for broadcasting the “Champion Sound!” Our version does this with fresh grounds and good vibes all around!

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a large dark brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of floral coffee notes with some black chocolate note and some subtle bourbon notes. Taste is a mix of floral coffee notes with light residual sugar notes, some chocolate notes with some bourbon notes with light vanilla notes also perceptible. Body is full with good carbonation and no real apparent alcohol notes. Superb coffee based imperial stout with some light and well-balanced bourbon notes.

375ml bottle. Jet black colour with small, thick, creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, beige to tan head. Aroma is BA flavour dominated, notes of Bourbon, oak, vanilla, caramel, slightly disguised hints of coffee, roasted dark malt. Taste is bitter, roasty dark malty, sourish, woody, tannic, mild hints of Bourbon, notes of bitter coffee. Quite unbalanced, too bitter, too tannic and sourish woody.

Finally a re-rate of this. On tap at Stigbergets Fot. Black with beige head. Roasty with intensive coffee, chocolate, cocoa, good amount of sweetness. Bourbon is present. Smooth texture. Medium to full bodied. Bottle, 355 ml from Beergium. Shared with Max and Kova. Black with beige head. Stinks, some sewer odor, some malty and chocolate notes coming through, but it's sourish, basically undrinkable. Same thing like Black Mask this doesn't seem like an isolated case - we've tried contacting both the brewery and Beergium, but no response. Beergium seems to still have it in offer. Paying 17 euros for a bottles seems like a disgrace.

0,375l bottle at Powys, shared by Powy, big thanks. No obvious BB date. black color, small coffee colored head. smells earthy, very bitter herbal, peppery, coffee, heavy spices, some cinnamon, lightly boozy, nice to very nice smell. full body, light carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes earthy, cinnamon, heavy spices, light vanilla, bourbon, peppery, lightly boozy, some bitter chocolate. a bit weird but also very nice on the taste, very drinkable.

8 3 8 4 17 Bottle shared at THT May (My leaving The Hague edition). Near black with a ring tan head. Aroma of bourbon, coffee, vanilla, roast. Flavour is heavy sweet. Light full bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle shared at Kermis’ last THT. Almost black with dark beige head. Lots of bourbon, light coffee, quite some berries, lots of caramel and sweet malts, vanilla, light booze, cognac, white grapes, figs. Quite sweet, but also some nice bitterness from the coffee and booze. Almost full bodied with low carbonation. Pretty decent.

THT May - Kermis Leaving. Bottle shared black with tan head. Big sweet roasted chocolate malts, cinnamon, bourbon, chocolate, roasted peppers. Big sweet, big bitter, hint of spiciness. Full body, supple, very dry finish. Strong boozy underneath, can feel it but not taste it.
