33cl bottle from Firmabier, if I remember correctly. 26/09/2016. Pours pitch black with an one finger thick espresso head. Wine barrel noticeable straight away, but not intruding. Licoricy, roasted malty, slight sourness. Flavor has sour wood, licorice, roasted malt, slight tartness. No sign of the alcohol. Sweeter finish, but the wine/barrel notes makes it feel more sour than sweet. Nice sipper. Quite fond of the wine notes actually.

From tap. Pours hazy dark brown to black with a small tan head. Aroma is toffee caramelish and light breadish. Sweet, roasted, light liqourice and roasted dark malty. Bitter and dry. Slight herbal finish.

Sampled @ Zythos Bierfestival 2015 Sehr dunkel rötlichbraune Farbe, geringe beige Schaumkrone. Geruch schokoladig, holzig, Vanille. Geschmack sehr schokoladig, Vanille, Holz, Bourbon, gut!

(Bottle, 0,33 l, at HBF2015) The beer poured black. Its head was medium sized and lightly briwb. Aroma had wood, vineousness and burnt malts. Palate was full bodied and dry with medium carbonation. Flavours were wood, vineousness, sweetness, liquorice, vanilla and bitterness. Aftertaste was malty, woody and bitter. A rather nice but the finish a little bit too boozy.

One of the barrel aged Dead Man’s Hand stouts, with a sticky, beige, dense head, quite thick and even with some near gushing; colour very dark burgundy, as good as black. Aroma of meat broth, wet leather, cold black coffee, bitter chocolate, brown bread, grapefruit peel, elegant vanilla-like tannins, port wine, ginger, elderberries, cocoa powder, Syrah wine. Taste vividly fruity, red berries, passion fruit, some lemony acidity which even becomes drying, medium carbo, full and granular mouthfeel, caramelly and nutty malts becoming increasingly chocolatey towards the end, spicy yeasty hints, sourish and sweetish, bittering finish of coffee-like roasted grains, peppery hops and warming, liqueurish alcohol as well as a clear presence of woody tannins, with a faint hint of red wine in the background. Nice and complex, though I had expected a more oily texture and thicker maltiness. The wine barrel is clearly there, but in good balance with the brew. Interesting.

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ Hogerdijk, Culemborg Very dark brown with a lacing lasting brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee and wine. Taste is medium bitter but with a vinous sweetness that doesn’t work for me. aftertaste is more alike to an imperial stout with lasting roasted malts. Not the best imperial stout for me due to the wine influence but I’m curious to find out if the bourbon aged versions are more to my liking because the basis is solid.

Bottle @ DØE Meeting. Pours black with a light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffeenotes, wood, light sourness, redwine, wood, berries, light cinnamon. Flavor is lightly roasted, malt, coffee, sour cherries, berries, wine, wood, oak, little vinegar. Medium body, lively carbonation, dry light acidic finish. 151014
