The pleasant, dark Doppelbock of monasterial origin, especially suited for festivities during the chilly season.

Typical for the Maximator is the full-bodied, pithy and pronounced body, coated with a fine and velvety refraction.

Due to the use of dark malt produced in the barn malt house, the light sweetness is surrounded by toasty cocoa notes.

The finish is smooth, with a lingering note of dark chocolate.

Bottle @ home. Dark orange appearance with a fairly small, tan head. Big caramel, toffee, very malty, bock aroma. Quite sweet, toffee, caramel malty, burnt sugar, fairly strong flavor. Caramel, bock aftertaste. Pretty tasty but very sweet.

Whole Foods, DC six-pack ($12.99): Pours a ruby color with a beige head. Aroma has a whiff of what I can’t describe in any other word except lager. Lots of fruit flavor there as well, prune perhaps. Caramel and sugar in the aroma as well. Taste is pretty sweet, but without being cloying. There are a few burnt notes hopping around as well. Mouth feel is extremely low on carbonation, perhaps even too low. Not as thick as a doppelbock could be. Quite good, and very drinkable. Alcohol is perfectly well covered (a common error amongst the bocks).

Bottle 0.5, bought at Orterer Getränkemarkt in Munich. Dark ruby color, aroma of malts and smoke, no carbonation. A very nice malty taste, notes of wood and caramel. Presence of alcohol. Palate typical for a doppelbock. Smokey aftertaste. Very good.

Bottle. Poured brown with medium white head. Big malty aroma with caramel notes. Full flavoured, chewy body with more caramel. Medium finish, with a bit of bitterness to keep it from getting sicky sweet.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a red-brown color with a huge tan head. The aroma was sweet and tangy malts with notes of molasses and plum. The flavor was very malty with notes of vanilla, plum, molasses, cocoa and Dr. Pepper. The finish was long and malty with hints of plum and molasses and a faint medicinal quality. Thick and creamy body.

At a tasting, nearly no head whatsoever, very deep brown colour with lots of reddish tains, complex malty bready aroma with a hint of vanila, flavours of dried fruits, aromatic tea, winey notes and bread with a touch of oxidised notes, wonderfull long sour aftertaste. Excellent.

Bottle. Pours mahogny with small golden head. Complex aroma with notes of dark bread and marzipan. Taste is sweet at first. Milk chocolate, raisin, fig, that kind of stuff. Some serious malt bitterness with a touch of fennel rounds it off. The aftertaste has got the charcter of a finnish dark bread that has been smoked. Smooth and well balanced beer. A very good doppelbock!
