Curieux

Tap at Mikkeller Bar, San Francisco. Colour is clear deep orange with small white head. Aromas and flavours: Belgian yeast, fruits, some sweetness, hints of alcohol and malts.

On tap @ Rattle N Hum. A cloudy bright honey colored one with a small quickly islandy and sidesticking just off-white head. Smells really nice. Floral with Belgian yeast, grape zest and it has this sweetness that's hard to put in word. Almost like plums mixed with cucumber, banana, green canned apples and wood. It has a good oily mouthfeel with a gentle prickling carbonation level. Lovely flavors with lots of Belgian yeast, a little alcohol tone - not as much as I thought though and it has this grape/white wine touch written all over it. It also feels kinda gliding in the mouth and really vinous this. Light eastery and fruity tones towards the finish. Perhaps even a little swift of vanilla, but I could honestly not tell that this has been barreled on those barrels it actually has been barreled on. Really liked it though! 21.06.2013

From bottle to tulip. Aroma of sweet grain and perfume. Pours a hazy orange with white head. As it warmed, aroma picked up some vanilla from the barrels which was very nice. Citrus and bread flavor with slight astringency.

750ml bottle [Thanx David!]. Hazy dark golden colour with huge, frothy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, white head. Fruity aroma with a green apple note, hints of wheat cereals, backgroundish notes of oak and vanilla. Taste is initially fruity, apple again, hints of wheat cereals, a touch of yeast, matching notes of oak and vanilla. With time going by the fresh fruity note decreases and turns the beer’s character in a more matured one, the BA notes gain more weight. A perfect example of improvement through BA by supporting and complementing the genuine beer without overpowering. Really unique!

Bouteille 750ml, courtoisie de Hogtownharry ou Blankboy. de couleur dorée-ambrée et voilée. Nez de levures fruitées (agrumes, traces de cerises) et légèrement épicées (poivre), boisé (fût de chêne), moyen de pain, léger d’alcool liquoreux doux, avec des notes de biscuits et de houblon floral ainsi que des traces de vanille. Moyennement ronde en bouche avec un pétillement moyen et une texture légèrement liquoreuse etaux notes crémeuses. Léger goût de levures fruitées aux petites notes terreuses (léger d’agrume, faibles notes de raisins verts, de pommes et de cerises) et légèrement épicées (poivre) avec un goût boisé (fût de chêne, qui reste présent en arrière-goût toute la gorgée) avec des traces de vanille lors de l’entrée en bouche auquel se rajoute un goût malté de pain avec des petites traces de sucre brun et de de céréales fraîches. Parallèlement, l’on retrouve un goût d’alcool liquoreux moyen-doux réchauffant qui mène à une finale légèrement sèche et légèrement amère de houblon herbeux. Post-goût moyen-long et moyennement sec, légèrement amer d’alcool doux, légèrement boisé avec des notes de houblon herbeux et de fruits (zeste d’agrumes, traces de pelures de pomme).

Tap. Pours hazy golden yellow with a small white head that dissipates with nice lacing. Aroma is yeast, honey, a bit of wood and spice. Flavor is yeast, tart lemon, wood, but mostly the astringence rather than the flavor, strong honey and a bit of spice. Lightly sweet, medium strange bitterness that is not tied to any particular flavor; just present. The astringence and to some extent the bitterness fade after the beer airs for 10-15 minutes, but it was fairly offputting to me. Unique? Probably, and that’s a good thing.
