Clear dark brown beer with a reddish shine, beige head. Aroma of raisins, madeira, port, dried fruits, caramel, coffee and alcohol. Light vanilla. Rather sweet malty flavour, coffee, alcohol and molasses. Finish raisins, caramel, vanilla and alcohol.
Nice brew.

Thx. to Tinus, I think // 33 cl. bottle sampled @ RBBSG 2012 // black, darkness, spooky with a mocha head // smells sweet, roasted malts, sourish malts, berries, tad vinegar, yeah but it is not as overt as that sounds // bitter roast, mocha and espresso flavors, bitter cocoa, nuts with some berries and sour fruits and vinegar touches // body is a bit thinned out // probably not exactly what it was intended to be, I think but it is not heavy, actually kind of suits it a bit. base appears to be ok but not particularly impressive

Sampled at RBBSG. Brown color with a red glare coming through, medium sized beige head. Smell roasted malts, alcohol, wine. Taste roasted malts, alcohol, wine, slightly sweet. Medium carbo, full body.

Clear dark brown beer, small irregular beige head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: lots of mocha, dark chocolate, coffee, some vanilla, caramel, alcohol. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: lots of caramel, sweet sugary, more alcohol, mocha, bit of cocoa powder, some dry hops. Aftertaste: sweet caramel, quite hoppy, some vanilla. Nice!

12 oz. bottle, pours near-pitch black with a reddish tint and quickly-dissipating ring of tan head. Nose of more like a sherry than an impy, with liqueur-coated dark fruits, molasses, treacle toffee and sugary caramel. Flavour of sherry liqueur, loads of caramel, candied sugar, more liqueur--coated around dark fruits--and very noticeable alcohol kicking through. Palate is super oily, viscous and almost completely uncarbonated. Leaves a very noticeable liqueur-like booze burn, but in a very tasteful way. Delightful, very well-made, slow sipper.

Bottle. A minimal-sized, dense, dark beige head sits on top of a black body. The aroma has dried fruits and caramel, some alcohol, but far from as much roasted malts I expected. Not very roasted flavor either, but there’s alcohol, dried fruits and some sugary sweetness, finishing with some hoppy bitterness. Full-bodied, nicely carbonated and warming. A nice one, but not what I expected in any way. Don’t think that have influenced my rating, but you never know. 110930

Refrigerated bottle from JoePessie poured into a snifter. Pours black with dark brown highlights and very small light brown head. Little lacing, medium/thick body, and molasses aroma. Taste is roasted malt, molasses, some dark candy sugar, some coffee, hint of licorice, goes from a hint of alcohol at cooler temps to a fair amount of alcohol at high temps, and a hint of hop bitterness in the finish. This is just as much a strong belgian ale (struise pannepot) when cooler and as it warms it becomes more alcohol barley wine may be more so than an imperial stout . Too much alcohol, but still pretty good. One of the few dark beers that I prefer cool, too sweet and too much alcohol as it approaches room temperature.

This beer pours black with a dense light brown head that diminishes slowly. Rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of molasses, anise, malt and oak. Rich body with flavors of dark malt, black licorice, raisins and sweet molasses. The finish is smooth and leaves a sweet malt and licorice/chocolate/vanilla aftertaste. Enjoyable beer all around.

Bottle @ home, courtesy of Armin (I think). Black appearance with a creamy, brown head. Very sweet, syrupy, dark roasty malty, chocolate, and toffee in the nose. Super syrupy sweet, roasty malty, chocolate, caramel, dark fruity, licorice flavor that’s almost like a barleywine. I’m not too big of a fan due to the huge sweetness. Very rich. I guess on the upside it packs a punch in the abv.
