When it came time to brew Bottleworks 13th anniversary beer, we turned to Stone to brew this behemoth. "The Matts" traveled down to San Diego in December to help create this 13-hop, 13-grain monument to our 13 years of selling great craft beer!

Poured a deep dark black. 1 finger head. Fades to a light level of bubbles. Very weak nose. Mild bitterness and licorice. Taste is well...harsh. Loyd of smoke and oak. Honey and brown sugar. Hops and peppers. Meh.

Big black pour with a thick, lasting tan head. Roast malt, cocoa, coffee, complex yet subtle aroma. Interesting flavor here. No roast malt bitterness, some chocolate, a little coffee, sweet but not overly so. Different than a stout, not a barley wine. I think they stumbled onto a good one.

Slightly cloudy dark brown/ black colour, tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate, caramel, light vanilla and dried dark fruits. Quite bitter flavour, roasted malts, dark sugar and a hops note. Finish bitter coffee, malts, with quite sweet tones and caramel coming through.

Finally cracked into this one - 22oz bottle. Poureda a solid black color with a huge tan head that dissipated quickly. Very nice looking. Aroma is heavy malts - as I expected. An almost sweetness to it that reminds me of raisins and other dark fruits. A touch of hop notes here - overall about what I thought it would be. Flavor was dark fruits, with sweetness and other notes. A touch of a hop finish to it.

thx to Alejandro // 75 cl. bottle sampled @ RBBSG 2012 // brown reddish with not much in the way of head // smells aged with malts, coffee, spices and remains of some american hops // taste is bitter coffee, malts heavy and even heavier on bitter coffee, liquorice, star fruit, bitter grain coffee, american hops remaining, sweetish, touch dark fruits, some dark fruits, bit affected by age // body lightly thinned out by age // typical but good Stone fare
