Tradition meets progress with this classic beer. The flavour of Liefmans Oud Bruin, dating back to 1679, is derived from special malts matured in open vats and matured for between four and eight months. The fermentation is then restarted by mixing older and younger beers together, leading to a more balanced and consistent flavour.

0,25l bottle at home. Rather old looking bottle, unsure of age. dark brown color, no head. smells oxidized, light berries, parfumy, sirupy, honey, average smell. medium body, no carbonation. tastes oxidized, sirupy, honey, peppery, bit rusty, marzipan. finishes lightly sweet with notes of oxidation, sirup and peppery notes. probably quite a bit past its prime.

Slight cherry aroma, malty. Vinous flavor with some sourness, cherry and oak. Thin to medium bodied. Very likeable beer that has quality and even some depth.
