Bottle. Pink color. Lively in the glass. Head disappears instantly. Floral aroma with raspberry. Sweet flavor with sour notes and raspberry juice. Slightly alcoholic. Almost a sodapop with some alcohol.

Bottle of about four years old, tasted at five months past its best before date, shared with Goedele and Craftmember. A commissioned raspberry ale based on De Vlier’s basic idea, namely the combination of cultured Saccharomyces with lactic bacteria and, in some cases, champagne yeast. Loose, off-white, thin and quickly opening, eventually dissolving head over a hazy orangey peach blonde beer with salmon pinkish tinge. Elegant, gracious aroma of ripe yellow raspberries, ripe peaches, orange flesh, pineapple yoghurt, sweetbread, violets, rosé champagne, tzatziki, cucumber, sweet white grapes. Crisp onset, lots of yellow raspberry sweetness and mild tartness, pineapple and peach note with even a tropical mango-like side as well as some citric fraîcheur: lively carb, champagne-ish, with very supple, elegantly light mouthfeel, feeling lighter than the ABV would suggest. Sweetbread- and lightly caramel-like malt sweet body dried by a soft and subtle lactic sourness, in combination with the basic sweetness establishing a very refreshing and elegant character; the sucrose from the raspberries lasts deep into the finish, with where a champagne-like flavour adds some complexity as well as – after pouring the sediment – a powdery yeast effect and a very subtle, bit earthy background hop bitterishness. Mild sour ale with fruit shaped like a very elegant, almost ‘feminine’ aperitif beer. Modern, refreshing, pleasant and actually much better than expected, comparable in concept to the cherry beer Vesalius they made and which I think is very much underrated.

Bottle at home, from Belgiuminabox a while back. Pours hazy pinkish apricot with a fizzy head. Aroma is yeasty with artificial raspberry, dough, Sweet, one-dimensional raspberry taste with grains, syrup and wheat.

Bottle from LDW, Eke. Hazy pink/orange grapefruit colour. Nose of raspberries, lemon. Tart and watery, light bitter. Strange balance. Not bad but I expected more.

The beer is lightish orange with just a touch of pink hue to it. It’s quite cloudy. The head is fizzy and white. It puffs up a whole bunch but then dies down to nothing in relatively short order. The aroma is fairly washed out and flat. What flavors are knocking about are just ok. Phenolic character. Some medicinal, band-aid stuff. Decent raspberry note, a bit syrupy but not bad. A little bit of simple malt sweetness alongside a light lactic yogurty note. Unfortunately, the taste is plain old awful. Unpleasant phenolic action, like dried up cough medicine and multivitamins. Weird artificial syrupy fruit flavor. Utterly out of place tannic, grape skin bitterness. Mildly to moderately sour. Long cloying finish. Fizzy carbonation. Not as sticky as the flavor suggests but I very much mean that as faint praise. This is a bad beer. The flavors start off fairly off-putting and then clash against each other to form a cacophony of sweet and sour garbage.

Well, a belgian fruit beer. pours a hazy pink. bottle conditioned 3 finger pink head. smells like a wheat beer with fruit syrup added. The taste, well, it’s not that bad. sweet, soda like with raspberry fake syrup. it’s still a good mouthfeel and certainly a nice summer beer. then again, it’s belgian so 8% is a low degrees for fruit :)

Poured from a bottle. Aroma is very Saison like with a nice grainy, bready note. Some light stone fruit, citrus and medium light raspberry. Moderate phenolics, peppery but also some plastic. Pours a hazy copper orange with a red hue and a large, frothy, pink head that steadily recedes into itself. Moderate lacing and small legs. Flavor is slightly to moderately tart with some light citrus and medium light raspberry syrup notes. A medium grain note with some light bread and cracker. Some syrupy sugar notes in the finish, but not sticky. Medium bitterness. Less phenolics than in the aroma with only a slight plastic note. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringnecy and low alcohol warmth. Overall, this beer has an identity crisis. It?s sour but rather sweet and syrupy. It?s malt profile is more like a Saison. It barely has any fruit and there is a lot of phenolics.
