2010 Edition 12 oz. bottle. Motor oil color with a tiny ring of caramel around the top. Rich chocolate, dark fruits and vanilla. Medium body with a very smooth roasted chocolate flavor and a very strong coffee finish. Well worth drinking without being outstanding, maybe because the Impy stout I drank 30 minutes before this was just that much better. I would buy the Heresy from Weyerbacher before I would get this one again.

Pours a solid black with a finger of a tan head that rises quickly than all but disappears. Smells of chocolate, coffee, toffee, slightly sour with a hint of wet dog. I canβt find much in the way of hops in the aroma. Taste is sweet and smooth with a lactic edge. Chocolate, coffee, toffee dominate the taste with maybe a hint of lactose? Smooth creamy mouthfeel, light carbonation with a medium body. Not a bad brew but reminds me more of an extra stout rather than a Russian Imperial Stout. The roast could be stronger and the slight sourness would again seem more at home in an extra stout.

330ml bottle from Bierkompass
Pours pitch black with a nice brown colored and foamy head. Otherwise a pretty generic imperial stout with a bit sour and unbalanced taste.

12 oz. bottle. Pours pitch black with a medium, rocky tan head. The aroma is heavy burnt malts, coffee, chocolate, molasses and a little citrus. The flavor is sticky sweet with a little bitter chocolate. The palate is medium to heavy, smooth and syrupy with a clean, creamy finish. Overall, a very nice stout.

Medium dark brown head. Opaque black body. Roasty licorice and mint aroma with soy sauce notes. Dry-sweetish earthy licorice and cocos taste with tarry chocolatey notes. Mid-to-full body. Mild mouthfeel with some alcohol heat. Dry chocolate and soy sauce aftertaste with alcoholic metal and toffee notes. Like a US attempt to copy Samuel Smith Imperial Stout by different methods. Not at all bad. (0.355l bottle, Schouskjelleren, Oslo. Rerated 2011-07, same score. Much the same review, too.)

Black with a small tan head. Aroma of caramel with mild roasted notes, dried fruits and a hint of licorice. Sweet dark flavour of licorice and roast malt, fruity notes and a touch of chocolate. Well balanced down to earth impy.
