(Bottle, 2012 vintage) Black colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with black rye bread, caramel, liquorice, dark fruit, raisins, chocolate, brown sugar and a touch of orange peel. Malty, roasted taste with notes of black rye bread, sweet espresso, liquorice, treacle, raisins, pears, dark chocolate, a touch of orange peel and a generous coffee bitterness in the finish. Almost full body, quite sweet. Solid and well made imperial stout with lots of liquorice and espresso. I’m not usually impressed by the Wells’ beers, but this was quite magnificent. Excellent stuff.

Bottle, Boise imperial stout tasting. Deep dark brown with a thin brown cap. Nose is sweet, followed by a little smoke and dark fruit. A little sweet and smoky, feels like some anise, and fruity yeast. Decent roast and overall a middleweight body. Ok, but not really my style.

275 ml bottle. 2012 vintage. Pours a very dark brown - almost black - with moderate tan head. Aromas of dark fruits, roasted malts, creamy coffee, and a little bit of cola. Flavors of black coffee, dark bitter chocolate and dry roasted barley. Maybe some nuttiness. Really dry though ABV is noticeable. Great stuff.

2013 bottle thanks to olliejobbins. Black with rich beige head. Black chocolate, rich roasted malts, light spices with cinnamon and speculaas, marzipan, marmelade. Sweet with light bitterness throughout and a light fruity tartness towards the finish. Full rich bodied with creamy feel. This is better than a lot of imperial stouts with added coffee or strong barrel aged character. Really good.

Pours a deep black color, topped with a small tan colored head. Roasted malts in the aroma, some notes of chocolate and coffee as well, although the later very mild. Taste is sweet, notes of molasses and fairly strong presence of coffee taste, and a mild bittery feel. Creamy and filling, storng taste although you don’t really feel its 10%. Nice.

On tap served in a tulip glass. Brown with pretty tan foamy head. A medium-bodied beer with coffee and cocoa flavors, and richness reminiscent of bourbon barrel imperial stout. Finish is very enjoyable, not bitter.

Bottle, Tesco, Bidston. I was very surprised and happy to stumble across a box of this waiting to be put out on the shelves at my local Tesco. Poured nigh on black with a medium tan head. Aroma had notes of molasses, roast, dark choc and dark fruit. Full and rich flavour with fairly prominent booze and notes of chocolate, roasted malts coffee and vanilla. Quite a treat and a bargain at £2 a bottle. I went back for more that weekend but alas it was all gone and has never been seen again. Sob.
