Bottle shared in High Wycombe - thanks to Scopey. Vintage late ’80s. Pours clear copper with a frothy, off-white topping. The nose has faded fruitcake, caramel, toasty malts. Medium sweet flavour with creamy ripe fruits, more caramel. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet finish with notable oxidation, gooey caramel, over-ripe berries. Has aged pretty well.

Late 80s bottle as McEwan’s Scots Ale. It pours clear rich mahogany brown with a small beig head. The aroma is rich, meaty, earthy maltage, dried berry, fruit cake, plum skin and date. The taste is dry, bitter, earthy, brown bread, wood, dried fruits, plum, date, prune and some musty spice with a dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Not bad for age.

Bottle, 0.33l. Cloudy dark brown color with thin creamy tan-like head and average sparkling appearance. Aroma of caramel, mild roasted malt, dried fruits, scotch and vanilla. Taste starts with moderate sweet toasted malt and chocolate, follows by dried fruits sweetness and mild acidity, mouthfeel is warming alcoholic, while finish is mild bitter. Medium to full body, sticky texture and average carbonation in palate. Strong, sweet and that’s pretty much all of it...
