Cask @ The White Horse, Shrewsbury. The only cask available. Insultingly mellow, watery taste. Will go for water next time I’m in this position.

Charlie Wells staple. Fruity best bitter. Pours ruddy brown, aroma of biscuits and raisins. Taste is malty yet satisfyingly bitter finish. Lost a bit of its power after ABV reduction from 4.3% to 4.1%, but still very flavourful. Must be served well, can be a bit unforgiving otherwise.

Cask at The Mason’s Arms, Solihull. Poured a dark chestnut brown with a frothy white head. The aroma is weak malt leading to a medium bitter flavour with a little liqourice and lots of smooth malt on the palate. This remains a top session beer.

Smak och doft av humle, malt. Frisk, syrlig men lite för bitter och för lite eftersmak. Tunn kropp.

Cask - Roasted grains on the nose. Clear amber with a nice thick off white head. Roasted grains, light hops and a very almost non existent bitterness. Very light and easily sessionable, just very tasteless and no body at all.

Gravity dispense/stillage at the Tin Goose - LHR T1, 25/01/13. Clear dark golden copper with a thin off white head that retains. Nose is a little subdued, caramel malt, berry fruits, sugars, hint of plum. Taste carries a touch more depth, caramel malt, biscuit, dough, faint ribena notes. Medium in body, moderate carbnonation, some bitterness in the dry finish. Ok.

Cask at the Earls Court Tavern with Sarah. Pours a clear amber with a near white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has notes of sweet grains with some caramel and a bit of sweet bread. Flavor has a good amount of grain throughout with a light sweetness and a hint of floral hops.

From BA (Dec 2006): This is a review of a beer I drink on a regular basis, and I thought I should share my views on it. I only drink it in cask form and in pubs I know look after their beer. A lovely ruby coluored dark beer which always comes with a fine, smooth, creamy off-white head. No huge aroma, but hops, malts and often a toasty burnt smell is evident. This is a well balanced, well made bitter and tastes like a good English bitter should. The dryness and bitterness stays for a while, to be replaced by the malt and hops which are initially in the aroma. Very drinkable, a good benchmark for anyone who doesn’t know what an English Bitter tastes like.
