75cl bottle from Beer Merchants. An absolute bugger to get open due to the wax seal around the cork, there’s obviously an art to prising it off without some sort of cut finger mishap! Tried to contain this beast but the sediment still burst forth out of the bottle and into my glass. Cloudy brown pour with no head. Aromas of ripe plums, raisins, gooseberries, damsons. Very nice. Flavours of treacle toffee, malts, nuts, barley sugars. Reminds me of Stone’s ’Double Bastard’ brew but with slightly more balls. Extremely vinous stuff. Fierce alcohol burn. Improves with every sip. Noble brew, it demands respect.

Tasted blind. Bottled. A black beer with some sediment floating around under a bubbly off-white head. The aroma has strong notes of hops, citrus, and grass. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, carmamel, citrus, and grass as well as lighter notes of alcohol and spices, leading to a dry bitter and nicely hoppy finish.

75 cL bottle. Pours hazy dark orange with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted malty and hops fruity. Sweet and roasted malty flavoured with a distinct peachy hops fruity note. Nice fruity to the caramelish malt. Bitter and dry into the far finish with crisp fruity note.

2009 Bottle, shared with Moldovan Alex@ArroweP. I’d been keenly anticipating breaking this bad boy open, but was really blown away by just how stonkingly good this is. A hazy amber pour with a lingering small tan head. Simply gorgeous fragrant hoppage in all areas; sort of put me in mind of SN Bigfoot, but this is way better. Silky smooth mouthfeel. This really dances on the palate, headspins, backflips , the works.....The balance is just bang on the money with the sweetness and bitterness exquisitely in proportion. A real treat and surely a world class brew. Here’s to the North of England !

Bottle at Chriso Gaylord tasting 09. Thanks to MesandSim for bringing this wondeful bottle of wonderfullness. Big hops. Smells like a US barley wine. Good fresh green hop. Some jellied fruits. Really, really good. Fantastic hops. A little flat on carbonation, but it is a barley wine. Fantastic swallow. Malts are good and not overly sweet. Lack of sweetness makes it really drinkable even at 11% Fantastic hops on finish. Not quite Thomas Hardys or Harvest Ale but what are? but as an American/British barley wine it’s awesome. Cheers Mes.

Bottled@Chriso Gaylord Tasting. Amber colour, not much head. Aroma is plum, raisins, some herbal and mild alcoholic as well as toffeeish notes. Flavour is plum, fruity hops as well as some caramel, herbs, alcohol and mild notes of spices. Wellbalanced, even though it’s a bit on the sweeter side.
