Uniquely odd, yet semi-traditional, Puddin’ Wine is a collaboration with our ‘brothers from another mother,’ Todd and Jason Alstöm of BeerAdvocate.

Looking to Jason’s legendary Christmas pudding recipe as inspiration, this English-style Barleywine delivers an infusion of flavors through the addition of sultanas, cherries, black currants, plums, dark brown sugar and hazelnuts.

Brewed with a blend of Maris Otter, Pils and dark crystal malts alongside a bit of toasted wheat, Puddin’ Wine is then rounded out by aging on Terra d’Oro Zinfandel Port barrels for a full 6 months. The result is a full-bodied beer brimming with notes of dark pit fruit, smooth caramel and toffee.

Draft. Can't see thru it. Amber brown. Despite all the adjuncts it's balanced and not overly strong. A. much cherry comes out. My wife called it cough syrup but I don't agree. It is a light cherry strong beer basically. Flavor has the cherry popsicle aspect. Goes down easy and low bitter. Slick sweet.

Pours with a clear copper mahogany colored body that supports a thin tan head of foam. The aroma offers up lots of stuff like brown sugar, stewed cherries, molasses, red wine and a sense of dates. The taste delivers smoothness with molasses, malts and brown sugar stewed dates. An instant later it gets deep into tangy red wine, spicy oak and dry cranberry juice. Pretty fun beer.

Tap at brewery. Murky dark amber colour, small white head. Raisins, alcohol, wood, toffee in the nose. Full-bodied. Lots of wood, some tannines, plum in the flavour. Malty, some sweetness with sharp note. Interesting.

Sampled on draft at Tapped this beer poured a murky red-brown color with a large foamy beige head that left a bit of lacing. The aroma was strong cherry, raisin and cola. The flavor was intense with tart red fruits, cherry, berry, red wine and an astringent presence. Long finish of red fruits. Medium bodied. Alcohol well contained. Interesting

Sample at Beer Meets Wood on 09/23/2017. Dark brown color with a medium frothy beige head that recedes quickly to a film. Short strings of lacing. Aroma of dark fruit, caramel malt and oak. Full-bodied with flavors of port wine, malt, cherry and a bit of earthy hops. The finish is vinous oak and caramel malt. Pretty good overall.

10oz snifter pour at the Dogfish Head Alehouse in Falls Church. I'll start of by saying that this was better than I expected. Poured a medium dark brown color but with a lasting head. Lots of cherries, sweet brown sugar. Caramel. Booze is there but not overpowering. Thought this would be a disaster.
