Bottle at home. Pours a slightly hazy and very deep brown colour with a medium off-white head. Surprisingly light aromas of chocolate, coffee, some roasted malt, leather and wood. The flavours are more pronounced with more wood, leather, nuts, coffee and some chocolate. Soft and slick mouth feel, and a light bitterness. An easy-drinking one for a dark beer to be. Okay flavours.

Bottle in the hotel, near Bodrum, Turkey. It pours clear brown with a lasting, greyish cream head. Nose is dark toast and some dusty chocolate malts. Light to medium sweet flavour with more toast, light metal notes, hints of fruits. Light to medium bodied with average, creamy carbonation. A surprising dose of warmth in the finish, though at 6.1% I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised. More notes of toasty bread and weak cocoa. For a dunked it isn’t very sweet, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

Bottle. Pours clear dark brown, almost no head. Aroma is of roasted malt, grain, and hay. Taste is medium sweet dominated by grain and roasted malt, with something else I could not identify that was a bit weird, but not bad. No significant bitterness from start to finish. A little watery on the palate.

Several bottles in random bars in Istanbul on the night Galatasary won the league. Clear dark reddy brown pour with a small tan head. Sweet malt and toffee notes in the nose. Similar flavour with some dark fruit present and fairly noticable alcohol. To wash down a bit of Mezze its fine, and this is probably about as good as you’re likely to find in Turkey.

Another stop at Zeke’s Roadhouse. I am touring the world this weekend through crappy brew from far away lands. That being said this wasn’t so bad. pours brown with thin head. tastes of muted roasted malt, caramel, and ash.

July 2010: The first beer I had at my pool bar while on holiday in Ovacik (Turkey). 33cl brown bottle, poured into an Efes half pint glass (one and a half times). Tasteless, odourless and no body, slight malt hints but weak throughout. The beer was very cold, the sun was very hot, I needed a drink, this didn’t work. The first and worst beer I had on the hot holiday trip 2010.

(Bottle). Pours (very) dark amber, look almost black without a bright background. Sweet and watery with very little bitterness. Hints of alcohol. Pretty tasteless, but drinkable.

bottle, Konya, Turkey, September 28, 2011. dark brown. moderate carbonation. some metal in the flavor, a little red meat. Clear bottle but not skunked. dry grainy finish. not very good, but drinkable enough in this country with no beer selection.
