The Bruges city beer of old, potent and bitter-sweet BRUGGE Tripel has a beautiful golden-blond colour and a firm, rocky head, leaving a trail of Bruges lace on the glass. The aroma has a typical touch of smoked phenolic, and the flavour is bitter, rich and creamy.
The secret of the BRUGGE Tripel city beer is the unique composition of the “gruut” blend of herbs and spices used to enrich its flavour and aroma. In Bruges, anyone brewing beer was obliged to purchase “gruut” from the city’s herbs and spices shop, known as the “Gruuthuse”. Jan van Brugge and his descendents, who later changed their name to Van Gruuthuse, had a monopoly on the sale of Bruges “gruut” that lasted late into the 16th century. At the same time, taxes were levied to the Count of Flanders. In BRUGGE Tripel, this medieval tradition continues.

Ordentliches Triple, das sich aber nicht vom Durchschnitt abhebt - hat bei mir keinen bleibenden Eindruck hinterlassen. Trotzdem nicht verkehrt. Starke Carbo.

Appearance: misty gold with a moderate white head of decent retention. Aroma: candy, apricot, malt, Belgian yeast. Taste: light to medium sweet. Malt, candy, apricot, spicy yeast. Low bitterness. Mouth feel: medium body, average to lively carbonation. Overall: enjoyable.

opalescent golden colour, moderate sized white head; aroma of dried peach/apricot, some pear, lemon zest, coriander, orange and slight moldy notes,. taste has the same notes as can be felt in the aroma with some peppery aftertaste; great tripel; 700th Belgian ratings :) on the same day as my 500th Swiss one :)

330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 8.7%. Clear and deep golden colour, large white head. Aroma of gruut spices, kandij sugar and Belgian ale yeast. Medium sweet and spicy flavour with the same elements as the aroma, low bitterness.

Bottle from my Belgian stash early last year. This used to be a wonderful moreish beer when produced in Bruges back in the 90's. I drank loads of it and still have the glass. Things change unfortunately now it is mass produced. A hazy orange/amber coloured pour with a huge white head on top. Fruity, yeasty, orange, caramel taste/aroma. Doesn't come close to the original beer which is a real shame.

Brugge Tripel 8.2% Got 3 of these in my set, 2009 best before date. Mahogany brown, barest Wisp of carbonation on opening with a rich candied fruit aroma. Malty caramel, treacle, a bit of bitter tobacco leaf, sharp raspy carbonation on a medium full body. I think I liked the Leffe’s flavor more but this is WAY more vibrant. It has a kind toasted cherry in the finish which is interesting. That secondary fermentation in the bottle they tout on the label really shows through.
