Bottle at Cafe Apero, Leuven: New beer debute at the beer activity Extra Muros, sideline to the Zythos Beer festival but this all is at the Oude Markt, Leuven at several bars. Hazy orange colourd brew with an gentle fruity hoppy taste, and according to the label the brewery used eight hops from Poperinge.

33cl bottle from a trade with Jefverstraete, thanks! A clear dark golden beer with a huge good lasting off-white head. Aroma of dry spicy and grassy hops, strong pale malt. Taste of strong sweet pale mat, sugar, grains, cereals, no tripel hops..

F: medium to big, bit tan, good retention. C: amber, hazy. A: malty, fruity, herbal, banana, yeast. T: malty, orange peels, alcohol, yeast, bit banana, yeasty, floral, grainy, medium to full body, high carbonation, I expected somehow more hoppy profile but still not bad, enjoyed, 33cl bottle from Bierwinkel De Hopduvel in Gent.

Bottle @ home. Lightly unclear orange color full sized white head. Smell and taste malts, slight hops, lightly sweet, some alcohol and quite bitter. Decent to medium body, firm carbonation. Ok beer.

Tseut’s contribution to the ’tripel hop’ trend in Belgium, found in an otherwise unremarkable drinks center, thanks to Tamara for the tip. Thick and frothy, beaten egg-like, papery lacing, irregular head over a hazy peach blonde beer with strong fizz; clouded with deposit. Aroma of banana flavoured bubblegum, apple peel, dry straw, dried flowers, canned peach, raw rhubarb, gooseberry, pineapple, hint of cooked cabbage (DMS) but faint enough not to disturb too much. Estery onset, banana, pineapple, gooseberry, sweetish and sourish, fairly strong carbo, grainy and lightly bready malt backbone, bit cereal-like, ending in a grassy and earthy ’Euro’ hop bitterness, drying and bittering but certainly not thoroughly so; maltiness keeps prevailing and yeasty accents add some undisturbing phenols. Typical Belgian tripel, not bad and technically decent, but frankly a bit boring and unnecessary; based on the name and the usage of eight hop varieties, I expected something way more hoppy as well.

Crisp golden coloured body with a light copper highlight and a very thin, half a centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of deep bready yeast, metal, coriander seed, alcohol and some light hops - a few sugars as well. Medium-bodied; Assertive alcohol warmth and dry hoppy flavours with a subtle apricot and peach sweetness, but a strong earthy flavour at the finish. Aftertaste shows more metal and alcohol than anything else with a large degree of bitterness (not from hops) compared to sweet or complex flavours. Overall, a decent beer, but underwhelming considering the source and my expectations. I’m still happy I brought it back home, but I wish I would have drank this at the source and saved more room in my suitcase for some better options. I sampled this 33 cL stubby bottle purchased from Bacchus Cornelius in Bruges [Brugge], Belgium on 14-August-2014 for €2,99 sampled at home in Washington on 27-March-2014.
