(Bottle 33 cl) Strong, pale ale with a pronounced yeast sediment in the bottle. Unfiltered with a decent, creamy head. Marc Beirens, the brewmaster, claims that he makes his beers more bitter every year. I’ll recommend, that he stops this pursuit now. Loterbol is extremely hoppy. Goldings-hops are added two times and it’s even dry-hopped with Styrians. The hops almost paralyze the tastebuds, but without covering the underlying sweetness completely. Refermented in the bottle. 090804

Bottle at Heeren Van Liedekercke Blond, hazy body. Rocky white head. Spare lace. The head is mostly lasting. Overwhelming aroma of light malts, flowers, coriander, vanilla. Lightly bitter flavour. Lightly sweet, moderately bitter finish. Medium bodied, soft carbonation. A nice bitter flavour, not tremendously good, but still very nice. Duysters is becoming one of my favourites. I have to mention my previous rating of this was a lot worse (2.6): there was some saltiness in it. But you should pour the bottle very carefully and maybe only pour 3/4 of the bottle, because there’s a lot of sediment! And it sure doesn’t look like having a positive impact on the beer.

Cloudy golden color, minimal carbonation - aroma of straw, citrus, spice and mustiness - flavor is an odd mixture of hops, lemon zest, grain, apples and grapes - the flavors don’t really seem to work together as well as they could, and the dominant hops in the finish amplify this - not bad, but certainly not worth the five dollars I paid for my 10 ounce bottle.

Pale, hazy & funky yellow with greenish, Chablis-like shine; slim white head, lacey. Perfumey nose, like an Indian lime/mango chutney - and probably the necessary spices. Roasted, burnt taste, very spicey. Retronasal there's some true hoppiness, but the spice overwhelms it. Medium bodied, alcohol obvious. Sample seems a bit oxidysed. But my main complaint is about the overwhelming indifferent spiciness.

Deep golden amber colour with mountainous head. Aroma is fruity-hoppy (lime, kumquat, passion fruit) with hints of toasted bagels & sweaty yeast. Flavour is musty, sweaty, fruity (more kiwi than lime this time) with a firm alcoholic bite. Chewier, more caramelly than Duvel, but similar stuff overall. The big difference between the two I think is that this is rough around the edges while Duvel is very refined.

The aroma is sweet and fruity, the color is orange, and it has a beutiful head. The flavor is powerful, sweet and fruity. The alcohol prickles the tongue and it has a great palate.

Bottled. Reddish golden with rich head. Fruity caramel aroma.. Sweet and clean. The immensly bitter grassy flavour strikes immediately and lasts into a finish, which has some toffee to balance a bitterness that easily surpasses De Ranke XX-Bitter, at least as far as I can remember. Very much a different beer than the draught "regular" Loterbol.

The Duysters Loterbol has kind of changed during the years i guess, as with google i find the Loterbol of 5.2 %. On ratebeer i see the Loterbol of 6.8 %. Although this beer is very much alike with the Duysters Loterbol, i guess Duysters have come up with 2 distinct forms of the new Loterbol brewing season: the Loterbol Blond and the Loterbol Bruin. Cloudy orange color, huge medium lasting head. Dense particles floating around. Initially cheesy and citrussy aroma, when pouring out the more yeasty part of the bottle, the aroma becomes more spicy and yeasty, note of ginger even. Flavor is spicy carbonating on the tongue, with a pretty bitter palate.
