The first beer we developed was called Keikoppenbier, referring to the nickname of the inhabitants of Poperinge. We brewed this beer for the first time on November 9, 2011. The very first brew in our own brewery!
In our first beer we wanted you to be able to taste our story so three varieties of hops are used. The combination of these hops gives the beer a distinctive hop aroma and provides a good balance with the used malts.

Bottle shared during the RBESG 2014 London Grand Tasting - Moncada Brewery. Pours lightly hazy gold with a frothy white head. Nice Belgian ale, some dry bread, mild Belgian yeast expression, mellow bitter citrus rind, grain and hay. Light bodied with average carbonation. Clean and dry on the finish. Solid. Classical stuff.

Bottle at RBESG 2014 Grand Tasting. It pours cloudy gold with a small white head. The nose is fresh, grassy, orange peel, sherbet, passion fruit and candy. The taste is crisp, minerals, orange, tangerine, earthy. dough, grapefruit, mild acidity and light spice with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Crisp and citrussy. Rather nice.

Very good head, looking for all the world as whipped eggwhite. Hazy orange beer. Spicy nose, with a streak of old, slightly stale sherry. Rainwater, green weeds, slightly soapy. Quite bitter, as witloof/Belgian endive. Slightly metallic, not much else going on. Despite serious carbonation, stable head conveying a rather creamy MF; medium bodied. Longlasting, if mildered bitterness. Oh well... At least it smacks already more of hops, than its older Popering contender. --- Beer aliased from original tick of Keikop on 24 Sep 2011 at 11:01 - Score: Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 6 | Flavor - 6 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 6. Original review text: Head reduced to white rim in seconds; clear golden beer. Garden herbs, bit grassy, demure (why are brewers so shy of a prominent, imposing nose?). Dull grainy flavour; again a bit herbal, but finish is pure pale malts sweetness. Spritzy, light to medium bodied. Disappointing. Let’s hope the beer, when brewed at their own installation, will turn out better than this one, still brewed at De Proef (surprise, surprise). AND USE YOUR HOPS, fer chrissakes!

Standard Belgian blond beer. Little bit more special thanks to the fresh hops from Poperinge.
