330 ml bottle, in France. Deep brown colour, decent tan head. Flavour is malty with some caramel, fairly sweet. Smooth and nice to drink. Hardly any bitterness at all.

Bottled. A malty nutty aroma to this muddy brown coloured beer. The taste is also malty, nutty and sweet. A good Dunkel.

(tap at the Dachsbau, Krefeld) Dark brown coloured hue with a slightly off-white creamy layer. Yeasty and fruity nose of dried plums with a touch of caramel. Sweet malty taste with dried fruits, mainly plums, bittersweet malty and slightly vinous finish. Decent Dunkel.

On tap (Dachsbau, Krefeld) Very dark amber coloured, thin but stable fluffy off- white head; dry fruity (plums) and sweet malty nose; slightly bitter and sweet flavour; fruity (raisins) and malty finish with a tinge of bitterness. A decent brew from France, much better than the bland Lagers from there........

65cl bottle from Auchan. Ruby beer, bubbly beige head. Nice brune. Dark malty flavours, bready, like malt loaf with raisins and sultanas. Bit of sweet boiled sugar flavour. Some brown sugar. Bit too sweet and that boiled sugar flavour wont go away

(Bottle 65 cl) Clear, pretty mahogany coloured beer with a light brownish head. According to the back label it’s brewed according to a tradition of strong ales, but it isn’t really very aleish - hasn’t got the fruity esters. Dark and malty with some smoked notes and a pronounced sweetness. A bit alcoholic. 070505

Copper brown, not much head. Cold coffee - roasted barley nose. Sweetish: prunes, raisins, sugar. Quite carbonated and light bodied. Abbey brune for beginners. Aftertaste has a touch of alcohol and candy sugar. Dunkel? No.

A red-brown beer with no head. The aroma is of roasted bread. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of bread. A boring beer - especially the flavor.

Bottle at Le Carrousel cafe in Paris. Murky dark brown color with a thin beige head and thin slippery lacing. The aroma is very malty. Syrupy body with a strong malt flavor that is borderline malt liquor. The finish is cloyingly sweet. Probably the best French beer I have tried thus far, but still not great.
