Saison Rue is an unfiltered, bottle conditioned, Belgian/French-style farmhouse ale. This is a beer of subtlety and complexity, with malted rye, spicy, fruity yeast notes, biscuit-like malt backbone and a slight citrus hop character. With age, this beer will dry out and will become more complex with rustic notes of leather and earth from the contribution of a wild yeast strain. Being a saison, Saison Rue is ambiguous unto itself as it is a different beer when fresh and when aged.

750ml bottle @ sbwf14. Deep amber, thick white head. Distant fruity, berry aroma. Spicy. Flavor has citrus, peaches, sweetness, hops, yeast. Lingering peachy finish that is quite dry.

Tasting at Matt’s
Hazy golden color with large head, highly carbonated. Strange aroma, fruity, soapy, a bit spicy ( sweet spices, coriander, anise). Soft mouthfeel; it has a nice fruity touch, strong spices, but also some soap, wood, vegetables.
Messy.

21.05.2014, 0,75l bottle @ BBGTC tasting:
Big fizzy mediumlasting head. Aroma is loaded with Co2 stinging in the nose, followed by yeast, flowers, dried fruits, hay, spices, light malts, almond cake, caramel. Taste is slightly sweet, sugar, almond cake, spices, grass, hay, flowers, yeast, weeds, citrus, dried fruits, light malts. Medium bitterness, slightly dry harsh mouthfeel. Fair enough, but not really my cup of tea.

Deep golden color. Big bretty hoppy, with rye in the background. The mouth really opens up with fairly aggressive hoppiness, Brett and rye. Not. Very authentic Saison (def American) but still very nice. Not too tart. Funky Brett finish with moderate hoppiness thought not much bitterness. Good.

Bottle.slightly hazy light amber with large foamy off white head, sugary floral aroma, high carbonation, slightly sweet and spicy taste with a hint of cloves, medium finish with minimal bitterness at the end. Very nice beer for spring, I hope the spring comes soon!

Bottle sample at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks Yoav. Hazy dark yellow. Aroma of fruits, some bretty funk and citric and floral spiciness. Sweetish flavor with faint tartness, fruits, malt, rye spiciness, mild funk and a bit of alcohol. Medium-bodied. A bit too heavy, but not bad.

Reviewed from notes. She pours a somewhat hazy orange/brown and leaves the same colored body with a one finger white fomy head that quickly dies and barely leaves any lacing. The smell has a rustic yet kinda earthy sort of apple/pear kinda coming through in a wine-like sort of way. The taste has some semi-sweet qualities yet has a slight degree of bitterness (that same wine-like sort of taste). It has a wine-like aftertaste, and tries to have a bitter dry finish but actually there isn’t much there. On the palate, she sits pretty light, has a nice sessionable quality to it but has a carbonated feel like wine. Overall, is this beer or is this wine? I’m not really fond of this at all, as its not really a saison its more like wine.
