Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout (Smokestack Series - formerly known as Imperial Stout)
Over-the-top but surprisingly approachable, this twist on the classic style starts with several types of malted barley, rye, oats and wheat. Robust flavors of vanilla, espresso, whiskey, chocolate and roasted grain are balanced by hints of date and plum, with just enough hops to round it all out. Roughly one-third of the final blend is freshly brewed beer; the rest is aged for up to a year (or more!) in both first and second use whiskey casks.

Bottle shared by Julien, small sample. Dark color, short head. Aroma of some roasted malts, bit grainy, chocolate, coffee, slight spicy note. Bit sweet in taste, slight malty bitterness. Bit thin in flavor actually. Very easy to drink though, despite the 11.8%. Decent stuff.

Pours dark brown/black color with thin light brown head. Aromas of whisky, roasted malt, chocolate, vanilla, and oak. Similar flavors with the alcohol pretty well hidden. Full body with minimal carbonation. Very nice.

Growler from the Craft Beer Factory in Marietta. Pours black, with a thick, foamy, tan head. The nose is boozy, with nice oak and vanilla character. The underlying aroma is molasses, toffee, anise and some peat. Very sweet flavor, with just a touch of bitterness. Very heavy body, sticky, warming, and smooth. This is a solid stout, with a great base, and a fantastic bourbon finish. Dangerously drinkable.

On Tap Black with a full dense lasting light tan head. Awesome chocolaty roasted aroma. Maybe a touch of whisky barrels. Flavor is more of the woody notes,m soft roasted flavors with some soot/ash. Low IBU bite, and nicely attenuated. A little sweet but not slick or heavy. Very nice and pleasant roasted flavors. Really like this.
