We built our first brewhouse using recycled dairy equipment. We had to test our handywork, so we loaded it up with a heavy, dark Stout. That first batch was a 13-hour labor of love, and when we sipped the first bottle, we knew we had a keeper. With a nod to the West Coast, we balance Stout’s deep, roasted malt flavors with earthy, whole-cone hops.

Creamy, malty, and full-bodied, the Sierra Nevada Stout is satisfyingly rich. Caramel and Black malts give the Stout its deep, dark color and pronounced roasted flavor.

355ml bottle into pint glass. A little coffee and chocolate on the nose. Dark brown beer with tan coloured head. Surprisingly tingly mouthfeel. Earthy, chalky, dark chocolatey finish. Late bitterness. Nice stout.

Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 20B). Bottle 35.5 cl - Batch 09015C-20906S. AROMA: medium roasted malt aroma with predominant notes of dark chocolate. faint hop note with a rustic pine-like note. APPEARANCE: very dark brown color and traslucent with ruby body against light. medium tanned head with medium-low retention. TASTE: moderate roasted malt flavor with notes of coffe and bittersweet chocolate. slight malt sweetness. slight pine-like hop note. medium to medium-high bitterness with a semi-dry and roasted finish. PALATE: medium body and slightly creamy. moderate carbonation. no astringency perceived. OVERALL: a very nice and american stout.

Sierra Nevada Stout 5.8% A picture perfect looking stout: pitch black with a tan head. The aroma is bittersweet chocolate and a soft roasted character. Medium to full bodied. The taste is rich roasty bitter chocolate. A solid stout. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from the Norwich Tap House. Very dark brown with a small tan head. Subtle aroma of chocolate fudge, crystal malt and Robusta coffee. Taste is surprisingly bittersweet, with a fruity hoppiness gliding over the earthy malt. Silky smooth finish. A fairly simple yet incredibly effective recipe.

Black color with big beige head. Aroma is dry espresso, chocolate, fruity, plums, fresh. Taste is more dry coffee and fruits, quite light and refreshing, but not watery. Medium carbonation. Delicious!

Kind of taste like the Pale Ale. A tad more sweet and dry. Interesting.

Pours dark ruby brown into the glass with a creamy, tan head. Very aromatic. A fruity, red wine scent greets the nose. Lots of hops here. Taste is bitter, lightly sour, almost acrid in places with the roasted malts taking a distant second place to strong and acerbic hops flavors that dominate the brew. Warming. Seems more alcoholic than it really is. Medium bodied, smooth, with a light carbonation that stays consistent for the course. Finish is dry and very floral for a stout. Pleasant. Tastes like an IPA blended with a more traditional stout, but with the IPA taking the leading role and with the hops overwhelming the more traditional chocolate and coffee flavors you might expect in a stout.
