Wrapped in a red cloak, this aromatic and complex beer reveals a scent of spice, orange and malt, followed by caramelized notes and a finish as hot as dying embers.

It evokes the Quebec legend of La Chasse-galerie – or flying canoe – which tells the tale of men who would risk anything for a night of fun, even making a pact with the devil.

Very good beer. Has the Belgian multi ale going on. Dark multi Rich yeast. With a little bit of fruit to change it up and give it a little bit of Distinction. Excellent body and finish.

Pours a rich dark brown from a bottle, light tan head. Aroma is a big malty caramel, but also some raw sugar. Flavor is dark candi sugar, but hints of something more spicy or vegetal, maybe tobacco or leather. Pretty good beer.

Someone abandoned this bottle at a share. Pours a hazy, copper color, with a small, bubbly, beige head. Smells of apples, cinnamon, caramel, and black pepper. Sweet, fruity, and a bit spicy. Light to medium body, with a crisp, lively, and clean mouthfeel. This is an interestingly light and fruity beer. Not at all what I expected, but tasty.

Big, rich Belgian Strong Ale, complex and ever-changing as it warms. Pours a deep, dark mahogany red-brown with a massive beige head and decent lacing. Nose offers plenty of yeasty esters, bread and clove on top of red apples. Taste is just as diverse, starting with a semisweet hint of dough and clove, then giving up a melange of overripe fruits, apples and bananas and peaches all tinged with the slightest toffee caramel sweetness. Finishes dark and clingy, yet the booze never comes into play. (Probably helps this bottle is at least two years old.) Wasn’t expecting this beer to be as delectable as it is, but, hell, it’s pretty tasty.

From old tasting notes. Cloudy Amber orange color. Thick, rocky beige head. Sharp, yeasty, spicy malt nose. Interesting soft, silky sweet toasted malt flavor hints at peppercorns and currants. Bittersweet finish with a cloying malty aftertaste.

341ml bottle. Minimally cloudy, darkest amber to mahogany colour with average to huge, thick, creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, white head. Fruity, yeasty aroma has notes of pear, hints of yellow apple, a touch of raisin, sweet-ish wheaty and oaty background. Taste is moderately sweet, yeasty fruity, notes of pear, hints of yellow apple, a touch of raisin, some peppery yeasty spiciness; minimally overcarbonated.

Another Belgian-style from Unibroue who I think a lot of. First time to pour out of a bomber into my favorite glass, a Chimay trappist. Be careful to pour slowly because it billows out a large off-white head of foam that is a great lacer. Its color is a dark golden-amber. The scent is truly enticing, fruity, mango mostly, and hard candy. The taste is fairly straightforward, malty, dark fruit, perhaps a bit of biscuit. Not near as complex as Trois Pistoles, a personal favorite from the brewer, but still fine.
