Don't be afraid to step inside the ring. This Imperial IPA uses Sorachi Ace hops in every possible phase of the brew: in the mash, with first wort, a number of times throughout the boil, in an improvised hop back, and even dry-hopped with SA as well. Since the beer is a monster, and brewed with a non-native-grown Japanese hop variety, we named it Konishiki, after the Hawaiian-born, Japanese-Samoan sumo grand master. At well over 600 pounds at his peak, Konishiki was known as "the Dump Truck," the largest sumo wrestler ever and the only strictly non-native achiever of sumo's second-highest ranking. Backing up the hops in this brew is a pretty basic pale malt bill of Northwest 2-row, Munich, C-77 crystal and Cara-hell provides an ABV crowding 8%, from an OG of 19.35, with IBU somewhere in the eighties. Defer, and while you're at it, bow down, to The Lord High Executioner!

Tap at Elysian. So, I want my DIPA to be hoppy, surprisingly Elysian doesnโt agree. Super dusty, stale maltiness. Yuck.

Draft pour at Brouwers, listed at 8.9% Stop #4 of my on foot Seattle crawl. Yet I havent hit a place that is new to me yet. Yet. Pours a cloudy orange copper with a thick foam head. Fruity aroma that reminded me of kiwi. Unique for sure. Flavor is modest hops, sweet fruit, and a dry side finish. Semi juicy. Easy drinking, with no offensive elements. Enjoyable for sure.

On tap at mad mex. From the start this stuff smells like mild volatile sweet perfume, The smell makes me think it is strong and it is. Comes across initially like a american wahnnah be barelywaine. A little rude and uncivilized Iโd say. The color is somewhat hazy pale yellah. Strong. Somewhat cloying at times fer sure. Very little co2. A littel difficult during the session, does not hide alky well.

4oz sample at Maxโs Hop Fest 2013. Pours a hazy, burnt orange with some creamy, white head. Nose is big and piney, grapefruit, malt, lemon. Flavor is all pine, cleaning solution, pine cones. Just tons of pine and spruce.

On tap at the Alibi Room, pours a cloudy opaque orange with a small beige head. Aroma of tangerine, other tropical fruits, some resinous hops and caramel malt. Flavour is quite intense, full of zesty oranges, some citrus rind, tropical fruits, bitter piney and resinous hops, and a nourishing caramel malt backbone. Despite being very fruity and orangey, there is a high zesty and bitter dry component that makes this exceedingly drinkable. Really well-balanced, with loads of depth. Excellent IIPA.
