A couple years ago, I sat at the far from remodeled Two Beers taproom, and talked with the beer tender about how impressed I was with their brand new, released that week, expirimental cider, called Three Pepper. It was delicious, and opened a love for pepper beers, and even inspired me to brew my own batch of pepper porter with the help of a good friend. I didn’t think the cider would stick around, mostly due to the lack of pepper beer appreciation, much to my surprise. Not only did it stick around, the peppers have found there way into an already solid IPA, and made it better. For some reason, the pepper profile and character in their beers (and ciders) are more intriguing than other brewers. It’s that perfect balance of heat and flavor that will longer and keep you wanting more. Draft pour pint at special brews. Copper orange pour with a cream foam head. Pepper heat aroma from a distance that will make you think this will be too spicy to enjoy. Well, for most of us. Dominant pepper flavor, but if you look hard enough, a solid hop profile pokes through. Very nice drinking heat beer here. Arguably my favorite one yet.

So, I was at the Holy Mountain anniversary party. Then I got ditched by everyone, also there were no more beers I wanted to drink. I decided to go home but stopped by Chuck’s in CD to get some beer for a Friday evening. I wanted to buy some bottles but I love to look at bottles as I drink beer, which is exactly what one can do at Chuck’s. I peruse the tap list and a pepper beer POPS out at me and I love pepper beers. So, I get an 8oz pour as I look around for beer. The thing about Chuck’s is that they have a lot of beer and a lot of specialty beers you wont find in a lot of places in Seattle. Additionally, Chuck’s has a 10% markup compared to everyone else. Also, they tend to let their beers sit around. So, while I like the idea of Chuck’s their bottle-related beer behaviors piss me off. Luckily, I had a 1/2 growler and I actually really like Chuck’s draft prices. At that point, despite having like 30 beers on tap and having already consumed 8oz of this beer, I liked it enough that I got 32 more ounces to take home. Why did I like it? Well, its a hoppy IPA with peppers and its actually hoppy and pepper-ific. Nose is burny, dry pepper, strong and breaking through the oily hops. Flavor is much less burn then expected from the nose. But a little bit of heat sitting at the back of the throat. Eugene likey.
