22 oz bottle poured and shared at a tasting. Much thanks to Tcon for sharing. Rating from notes. Pours black with a brown fizz head. Heavy roasted malt aroma with a wine fruit flavor. Vanilla flavor background, which provides the sweetness. Sweet imperial for sure. Very tasty.

22oz bottle shared by somebody? Sat around for a little less than 24 hours. Now is the best time for me to rate this. Despite 1/3 of the bottle sitting art room temperature for a day, it still poured with a small head. Very dark brown color bur looks black. I always worry about wine barrel aging due to infections but this is completely clear of that. Nothing in sight even close. Actually, makes me question if this is barrel aged. I do not get any "winey" characteristics. Aroma is strong, alcohol present but not offensive. Ash, dry malts, mild cocoa and chocolate on the nose.. Flavor is mild for the nose, well attenuated, not sweet. After taste has a dry moderately bitter malt. Hops are low. Roast is low, acidity moderate for style. Silky mouthfeel. Decent stuff, nothing that I dislike in the style but also nothing that that makes me want to buy it again. A but to dry and lingering in the aftertaste. Would actually want some more sweetness and less dry malt ending.

[2/23/15] Draught at Bailey’s Taproom in Portland. Black with a light brown head. Nice aroma of chocolate, liqueur, wine, oak and vanilla. Sweetish flavor, a bit acidic, vinous, oaky, with chocolate and dark fruit. Slightly boozy. Medium to full-bodied. A bit too winey and boozy for me.

Glass at the brewery. Pours a pure black color with a medium brown head. A big fruity, oaky and dark chocolate nose. The flavor is licorice, clear red wine, vinous, robust dark roasted malts, berries, a bit of smoke. I like this more than the non-BA version slightly. It’s very good.

On tap at Bailey's Taproom, pours black with a tiny tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, toasted nuts and mild cocoa. Flavour is mildly tart, with slightly sour dark fruits, red wine notes and wood. Quite complex even though it doesn't strike me as a stout. Fairly tart and vinous - lots of depth. Atypical, but great.

Draught. Black with medium tan head. Aroma of chocolate, alcohol and roast malt. Full malty flavour, with oak notes. Lingering malt finish, an hour later, I;m still tasting this.

Bottled. A pitch black beer with a thin brown head. The aroma is sweet with notes of alcohol, wood, and soy sauce. The flavor is sweet with notes of alcohol, pinot noir grapes, and roasted malt, which also lends it a slight acidity, before a dry woody finish sets in.
