In 2006, almost exactly 10 years after we first released Stone Smoked Porter, Stone Small Batch Brewer Laura Ulrich had a brilliant idea: What if she added whole Madagascar vanilla beans to a small batch of the finished beer? And voilà, Stone Smoked Porter w/Vanilla Bean was born! It was an instant hit, as the resulting flavor combinations—rich vanilla melding with the malty, chocolaty, coffee-like characteristics of the beer—were practically made for each other. Originally available only as an occasional growler fill or on tap all-too-briefly at special events or in our restaurant, this exquisite creation was released in a single bottle run for the first time in 2012, much to the delight of its many fans…who instantly began clamoring for more. Your voices have been heard.

On tap at Stone 17th anniversary party. Pours a minimal sized beige head over a more or less black body. Vanilla, dark chocolate and some coffee in the aroma. There’s roasted malts on the palate, dark chocolate, cocoa and some coffee. And vanilla. A bit too much I think. Full body, very soft carbonation, quite low level too. Long vanilla finish with coffee and dark chocolate. Too much vanilla, else pretty nice. 130816

Bottle from Tomlinson’s, Inverness [150213]
Dark brown, clear, big frothy tan head that dissipates to thin layer, some lacing
Aroma - Lots of smooth vanilla, soft dark malts, some chocolate, dab of vanilla chocolate ice cream
Taste - The vanilla is very good here, not over powering or sickly, some dark chocolate, soft roasted malts in background. Not intensely flavoured though - the smoke is very faint tbh
Palate - Moderate carb, bit over fizzy, thin to medium body, fairly smooth. Palate is more sweet than bitter. Finish there is some more roast, but more meaty chocolate roast, nice soft bitter roast linger. ,
Overall - More mellow than I expected. The ’Enjoy By’ is dated sometime in 2012 so the flavours have probably faded a bit

Draught at Aces & Ales, Las Vegas
Black color with creamy head. It has some aroma of roasted malt, light vanilla. Smooth mouthfeel, roasted malt and chocolate flavor, with almost no vanilla. The bitterness level is correct.
Balanced; good.

At a tasting, thanks DSG, small head, opaque very dark brown colour, , aroma of vanila, coffee and some chocolate, flavour of vanila, coffee, dark bread, with touches of smoke and soy in the back. the vanila blends in with the other notes and doesn’t overpower them. Really nice.

Bottle shared at a tasting at kerenmk’s place. Clear dark brown with a beige head. Great aroma with lots of chocolate and vanilla. Sweetish flavor with chocolate, coffee notes, a bit of vanilla and a dry finish with a bit of bitterness. Medium-bodied. Nice.

Bottle from Beverages 4 Less. Pours very dk brown with a slight beige/tan head. Aroma of smoke. Hard to find the vanilla. Full bodied. Now the vanilla is found. This is chocolate and vanilla. Smoke is still present, but isn’t the number 1 flavor. Flavors are strong. No skimping on ingredients. But Stone never apparently does. Very nice. Finishing like it starts. Excellent.

New Beer Distributors, NY 355ml ($3.50): Pours dark brown with a cascading creamy head. Aroma is smoky vanilla and roasted malts. Taste is really vanilla heavy. Smokiness is in the undertone. Nice roasted malt tastes. Well-balanced. One of the better vanilla infused beer I have had.
