In 2006, almost exactly 10 years after we first released Stone Smoked Porter, Stone Small Batch Brewer Laura Ulrich had a brilliant idea: What if she added whole Madagascar vanilla beans to a small batch of the finished beer? And voilà, Stone Smoked Porter w/Vanilla Bean was born! It was an instant hit, as the resulting flavor combinations—rich vanilla melding with the malty, chocolaty, coffee-like characteristics of the beer—were practically made for each other. Originally available only as an occasional growler fill or on tap all-too-briefly at special events or in our restaurant, this exquisite creation was released in a single bottle run for the first time in 2012, much to the delight of its many fans…who instantly began clamoring for more. Served on draft at Whole Foods Market Short Pump. Pours a very dark brown color with a medium sized creamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of roasted malts, honey, smoke, nutty notes. The taste is roasted malts, vanilla, smoke, chocolate and bitter hops. Medium bodied. Nice beer.

Tap. Black with a nice head. Big vanilla aroma, some chocolate, coffee, not a lot of smoke. Sweet vanilla flavor, though not over the top. Not too thick. A nice sweet nightcap, but with decent balance, though the smoke kind of got lost—just a bit came through.

Acquired this in a trade. Enjoyed at fridge temp in a Hill Farmstead Glass.
A - Dark brown on the pour, small head that fades fast.
S - Slight campfire scent, oakiness and light vanilla scent but hard to pick out. Smoke sort of overpowers everything else.
T - Up front light malts, sort of oaky but not too strong. Very drinkable. Finish is very big vanilla taste. Impressive finish though.
M - 25% carbonation on the mouth swish. Medium body. Sweet dry finish.
O - I like this more than expected. it’s pretty drinkable and the 12 ounce bottle makes getting through it very easy.

Pours deep mahogany into a Sam glass. Tan conglomerate head with excellent retention recedes and pancakes leaving sheet lacing. Sweet vanilla aromas. Soft with sweet vanilla upfront turning to smoke before the lasting bitter espresso finish.

Pours dark brown color with tan head. Aroma of lightly smoked, roasted malts with vanilla. Sweet vanilla and milk chcolate with roasted malts and a hint of smoke. I don’t think the vanilla and smoke malts are a good combination. Medium body with moderate carbonation. I really enjoyed the regular smoked porter. This one not so much.

Dark with lasting off white head. Aroma is balanced smoke, malt and vanilla. Full flavoured, first you get the malt, then the smoke then the vanilla. Vanilla finish, and I’m sure I tasted some hop in there

12oz Bottle from Julio’s Pours a solid dark brown with brilliant garnet highlights and a huge fluffy mocha head that persists forever. smells of caramel, chocolate, smoke and vanilla mostly with little to no hop aroma easily sniffed. The taste is a nice mix of chocolate smoke caramel and vanilla. The smoke and vanilla duke it out for top billing and ultimately the vanilla wins. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet creamy almost syrupy mouthfeel. I’m glad I got to try this, but I think the vanilla is a bit over the top and competes with the other flavors rather than enhancing them.

Keg at Cervezas, Miami. It pours jet black, with a thick beige head. The nose is vanilla, marshmallow, chocolate, roasted malt and smoke. The taste is roasted malt, coffee, smoke, charcoal, leather, wood, marshmallow and a touch of vanilla (but not too much), with a dry-roasted finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation and velvety mouth-feel. The vanilla is fairly subtle. A flavoursome beer.

On Tap at the R&R Meridian, ID A clear deep chestnut with a lasting, dense creamy light tan head. Heavy clumps of lacing. Big milk chocolate and vanilla aroma. If this is infact the "Smoked" porter, the vanilla deadens that aspect a bit. Nice slightly smokey, flavor with big vanilla and some cocoa. A little bite at the end. Nicely done. Glad to have stumbled upon one of the "occasionally avaliable" kegs.

On tap at Hay Merchant. Pours a cloudy brown with a small creamy beige head leaving sticky lacing along the glass. The aroma is roasted malt and vanilla coffee. Thin mouthfeel with a sweet vanilla and roast. Easy to drink hiding the alcohol well. A very impressive one off Porter from Stone.
