“a stout of great contention”
We are not the harbingers of truth as some may suggest but it may indeed be argued that our brewing philosophy is tantamount to a dessert with a bellicose past. How, you may ask, would a brewery determine a likeness to hard-coated custard? Our response is simple; it’s all in the power of history, and of course, the extra finesse needed to top off a contentious treat with definition.

Bottle from Epsom Circle Market, Epsom, NH. Aroma is strongly caramel malt with mild burnt smell. Appearance is dark brown to black--almost completely opaque, with 1 finger off white head with fair retention. Taste is heavy sweet caramel. Palate is full bodied, thick without noticeable carbonation. Finish is sweet and long. Overall, this is a great dessert beer if you are looking for Creme Brulee. There isn’t much complexity here but that’s probably unfair to ask given how it’s advertised. Very good at what it does and props for achieving it with malts and not running it over a bed of caramel.

Draught. Dark brown color with small off-white foamy head, strong caramelized sugar aroma, sweet milk and caramel taste, low carbonation, thin body, long aromatic finish. Very interesting brew, felt like drinking a dessert!

Bottle from Asahiya or CBB. I thought I’d rated this a long time ago... anyways, this dessert beer poured a dark inky black with a tan head. The aroma was of a lush freshly baked creme brule. The taste had a bit more of a stout quality to the creme brule and it was exceptionally sweet. It pairs very well with vanilla ice cream, cheesecake and other sweets. Trying to drink a whole bomber in one shot has me thinking it would get exceptionally cloying over time. All in all a well made dessert beer.
