“a stout of great contention”
We are not the harbingers of truth as some may suggest but it may indeed be argued that our brewing philosophy is tantamount to a dessert with a bellicose past. How, you may ask, would a brewery determine a likeness to hard-coated custard? Our response is simple; it’s all in the power of history, and of course, the extra finesse needed to top off a contentious treat with definition.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; dark brown colour with foamy tan pour, aroma is vanilla milkshake with a hint of coffee. Viscous creamy consistency with gives a glorious mouthfeel. Taste is initially expensive vanilla ice cream with rich caramel swirls. Quite sweet and different but this is a superb impy stout just wished I had another bottle.

Picked this up last week. Enjoyed in a white wine glass at fridge temp.

A - Tried to form a head on the pour..nothing then BOOM out of nowhere a finger tan head that dissipated almost as fast as it appeared. Looks like coffee or cocoa in the glass Very dark, semi-viscous

S - WHOA BUTTERSCOTCH! Smells like candy I used to get at grandma’s house, warm toffee, caramel, butter and roasted nuts.

T - Is this real life? OMG. Insanely sweet at the start like chopping down into a piece of chocolate covered monkey bread. Butterscotch candies, caramel and brown sugar. Hints of cinnamon. Middle of the tongue is roasted dark malts and the finish is bitter sweet.

M - Mild carbonation, medium body

O - This beer smells amazing tastes almost as good as it smells. The only bummer is the finish which falls completely flat and makes me have to take enough gulp to keep the sweetness going.

On tap at the Craft Beer Co (Dec ’11). Poured a black velvet colour with very minimal head (vanishing within a minute or so) and with minimal lacing. Flavour was all sweet, toffee, choccy, cream and to be honest did a very good job of resemblng the aroma of a ’creme brulee’ ! Mouthfeel - sweet, fluffy to chewy, not my favourite in this respect ! Sweet aftertaste. Started to get too sweet for my palate towards the end, but no arguments, did what it said on the tin !

Bottle shared with great beer friends including ClubGonzo. Pours a pretty black colour with a small beige head. Wow! The aroma is very sweet with caramell and vanilla that reminds me of a sweet liqueur. The flavour is also pretty sweet with more caramel along with chocolate and toffee. Oily and creamy mouthfeel, and a very mild bitterness, This is really creme brulee in a liquid form, sweet but not to much, and pleasant in my opinion.

Strong aroma of vanilla and roast malt. Taste has more vanilla on the beginning and fades to a stout bitterness, coffee crispness at the end. A very interesting beer, even if it needs a little fine tuning on the ingredients. Not a beer you could drink a lot of, but quite good as an oddity. 650ml bottle.
