Saint Petersburg is a fabulously full bodied chocolatey, malt flavours with coffee finish combine to produce a great Imperial Stout.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a large dark brown foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma of dry roasted malt notes with light coffee notes. Taste is a mix between some very dry notes with some roasted malt and some dry coffee bean notes with some dry chocolate notes. Body is about average with a high-level of carbonation for style with no alcohol apparent. Interesting beer thought a bit too dry for my personal taste.

Opaque black beer, thick tan head. Light semi dry palate. Dark malt, slightly roasty. Smooth creamy malt in the mid. Leads to spicy bubblegum (faint) and a little alcohol warmth Dry spicy finish. Not bad!

Pour is a dark brown with a small white head. Aroma is chocolate malts with a little anise. Flavor is dark malts. Some chocolate. licorice and ainse. Decent and probably how the style tasted when this was first brewed.

Keg at Euston Tap. It pours deep ruby, with a thin beige head. The nose is varnish, roasted malt, charcoal, cola, liquorice and some dark fruit. The taste is roasted malt, liquorice, bitter chocolate, burnt malt, charcoal and cola, with a long, very dry finish. Medium-full body and moderate carbonation. An easy drinking imperial stout if there is such a thing.

Draft @ Novare Res, Portland, ME. Some decent retention. Nosed of roasted barley, chocolate and a mild, Earthy hop. Tastes of dark chocolate, light coffee, some cola, and roasted malt sweetness. A light smoke note as well. Kind of thin body for imp stout but very drinkable and real tasty.

Cask version at Winking Lizardโ€™s 4th Annual Real Ale Fest (03/24/12): Pours brownish black with a medium beige head that recedes quickly. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt and smoke. Medium body with a charred wood character and notes of malt and caramel. The finish is acrid smoke and burnt malt. Average overall.

50cl bottle. Opaque black, chestnut hue with a beautiful head. The nose has vanilla and white chocolate with a fresh citrus note on the end. The taste has creamy Belgian white chocolate with citrus again. The palate is really interesting with a rich start and middle but the finish lets me down as the hops are too much - this I would prefer creamy with an elegant finish so very good but it could be amazing.

Bottle at home, 15th January 2012. Pours dark brown, black. Aroma is not that intense. Taste is coffee and bitter chocolate, palate is rather thin and less luxurious than some imperial stouts, I prefer a thicker, richer palate. Not a patch on the Kernel Stouts, but OK
