Bavarian tradition, the archetype of the Munich beer, you can taste its history – this is Hofbräu Dunkel. Long before wheat beers and lagers wetted the throats of Germans, the bottom-fermented dark beer was quenching the thirst of Munich residents. The first beer, which was served in the "Braune Hofbräuhaus", still satisfies to this day with its roasted, hoppy taste and the subtle malty finish.

Optisch sehr dunkles Kupfer, im Trunk seeehr sehr malzig, süß, nussig. Auch in der Nase malzig. Verhältnismäßig schwer. Okay.

Bottle. Clear brown pour with red highlights when held to a light. Diminishing off-white head. The aroma is mildly roasted grains, brown sugar and something nutty. The taste, like the nose, is browned malts, pecans, caramel and brown sugar. The palate is full and crisp. Finished long and semi-sweet. Overall: Decent and easy drinking, not a Dunkel to miss if you are new to the style. Paired well with some pretzels.
