IPA stands for India Pale Ale and ours is an American version of the classic style. IPA’s namesake lies in its colonial roots. British soldiers on their way to India drank a lot of beer, but found it would go stale on the long voyages. Meanwhile, brewers knew that by adding more hops, the beer would stay fresh. Voila! A new style was born and it is one we are proud to brew. Southern Tier IPA is a triple-hopped on its journey to your glass for a fully aromatic experience.

It poured a deep cloudy orange and gave the same color body. A beautiful half inch white head forms and lasts for a good minute before gently dieing into the body. Nice ringy foamy spider web lacing speckles the sides and clings to the pint glass. The smell has strong tones of pine, citrus and hops. There are some slight malts coming out as the beer warms. The taste takes the previously mentioned smells and gives more of a earthiness to it. I like it. The palate is about a medium and feels great on the tongue. Overall, this is an excellent choice of an American IPA. I didn’t think I would like this one as much, but this is solid for me and its style.

From a 12 oz bottle shared at home. Pours a cloudy copper with a white head. Aroma of fruity hops with some hint of butterscotch. Citrus and grass notes in the flavor. Bitter, bitter finish.

355ml bottle form ’Beers of Europe’ and poured into a Corsendonk badged stemmed tulip glass @ home on 2 Nov 2012 during a ’random beer tasting evening’. The beer is a good golden looking brew with a full off-white/white head of large bubbles. The nose and taste is a pleasant hop blend of bitterness and floral notes which combine together very well. Although hoppier than most IPA’s we get in the UK this one wasn’t ’in your face’ and stupidly over hopped. Easy drinking IPA I’d happily have again.

355ml bottle [7.3% abv]. Clear orangey golden colour with small to average, firm, frothy, white head. Hoppy aroma, resinous, piney, a touch of honey, slightly fruity, grapefruit. Taste is crisp bitter hoppy, moderately sweet caramel malty, resinous, minimally piney. Robust IPA that even may merit a two tenth better score on another day.

Tap @ Cockney Pub. Pours golden with a white head. Aroma of malt, light caramel notes, sweet fruit, citrusly hops. Flavor is quite sweet with malt, caramel, sweet fruit, peach, mango, and citrusly hops. Medium body, soft carbonation. 290812

Sweetish and fruity aroma with hops, resin, passion, mango, some caramel and hints of biscuits. Flavour is sweet with somewhat fruity hops, some caramel and hints of disturbing alcohol (pr perhaps the feeling comes from the hops?). The hops could be more aggressive here. Decent IPA anyway.

A mild, pleasant bitterness from this IPA, not as strong as others I’ve tasted. Slightly hazy golden color with mild carbonation, and a thin skin of a head. For me IPAs are tricky, as sometimes the bitterness is overwhelming, but this one was just about right.

Draft at restaurant. Poured a golden orange color with a nice white head. Aroma is nice citrus hops with a good malty balance. Flavor is good, solid hop.

Aroma is very hoppy with strong grapefruit accent. Appearance is clear copper with small head but very nice and long lasting. Flavors are all grapefruit and citrus. Hops are very sharp and well balanced. Finish is a bit earthy. A good solid IPA. Re tasted May 22nd 2013 and was much better than it was when I first tasted it in July 2012. Experience or beer improvement??? Found the aroma more conifer, more peppery. The use of several variety of hops is giving a complexity and power to aroma. Attack is developing more conifer and fresh grass notes with a more peppery taste. Very well balanced, hops are bitter without being aggressive; the way I like it. At a higher temperature we denote little accents of apple and caramel. I found it more complex than the first one tasted. I have revised my score to make an average of the the two.

35.5cl bottle at Gaasa. Clear orange with a white head. Hoppy and fruity aroma with tropical fruits, citrus, sweet malt, hints of pine, spices and caramel. Sweet and fruity with a well balanced bitterness. Well integrated alcohol. Slightly bitter and citric aftertaste. Nice and refreshing IPA!
