IPA stands for India Pale Ale and ours is an American version of the classic style. IPA’s namesake lies in its colonial roots. British soldiers on their way to India drank a lot of beer, but found it would go stale on the long voyages. Meanwhile, brewers knew that by adding more hops, the beer would stay fresh. Voila! A new style was born and it is one we are proud to brew. Southern Tier IPA is a triple-hopped on its journey to your glass for a fully aromatic experience.

Bottle from the LCBO. Pours a very clear orange with minimal head and slight lacing. Nose is grass and oranges. Big bitter start moving to a caramel sweetness. Medium soft body with a lingering balanced finish. Would like to have the hops a little more forward.

Grumlig gyllene vätska. Lite avslaget skum. Härlig doft av juiceiga frukter med en dovt mullrande humledoft i bakgrunden. Sötma möter markerad beska i bra harmoni. Gott skit.

Nice creamy longlasting head. Aroma is lots of fresh hops, newly cut lawn, leafs, caramel, pine needles, hints of cat piss, light malts. Taste is slightly harsh grassy, hops, wet leafs, grass, pine needles, soil, caramel, light malts. Longlasting bitterness, dry mouthfeel. Overall it’s nice, but the taste drags this one down from a near top score to a nice enough 3,9.

800 yen at Tadg’s. A very clear dark yellow gold with a piney/floral hop aroma. A touch of grapes or tropical fruits. The flavor is a deep mellow sweet bitter hop taste. Not super overpoweringly bitter, fairly well balanced. A solid IPA.

A light copper beer with a medium and blond head. The nose of caramell malts, some tropical fruits, peaches, fructose and some pine needles. Taste is medium bitter, caramell, pine and even some resin, also dry wood. Medium bodied, balanced carbonation. Probably, not a very fresh bottle. Bitterness is dominating, more fruits would be needed.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 1/23/2013. Pours slightly hazy golden amber color with a 1-2 finger dense off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of orange zest, grapefruit, tangerine, floral, pine, orange rind, light honey, light caramel, and floral earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of hop notes with a moderate malt balance; and good strength. Taste of orange zest, grapefruit, tangerine, floral, pine, orange rind, light caramel, light bread, and floral earthiness. Good amount of pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, citrus zest, floral, pine, light caramel, light bread, and floral earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice balance and complexity of hop flavors with a moderate malt balance; and zero cloying flavors present after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a sticky and fairly crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with pretty much zero warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice IPA! Very nice balance and complexity of hop flavors; and very smooth to drink. No complaints at all, very well done.
