Vichtenaar is a beer that is brewed on the basis of deep-roasted malts, spicy hops, fruity yeast and soft water pumped from a well with a depth of 172 meters. After the main fermentation and the second ripening, the Vichtenaar undergoes a third fermentation in oak feeds for a period of several months. The large upright oak barrels have a capacity varying between 5000 and 25000 liters.
Vichtenaar is a Flemish Red-Brown ale: a traditional and typical beer for West Flanders. The taste of Vichtenaar can be described as slightly acidic and complex and this due to the long fermentation in the oak foeder. The ruddy taste of Vichtenaar makes it particularly thirst-quenching. Vichtenaar is the oldest still brewed Flemish Red-Brown ale.

Color rojizo oscuro con espuma blanquicina de duración corta. Aroma a frutos rojos, madera y caramelo. Sabor con acidez muy presente, notas a cerezas, madera, azúcar candé y matíces vínicos. Final frutal, ácida... muy buena en cuanto a calidad/precio

330ml bottle. Pours ruby brown with a large head. Aroma is lightly sour dark fruits, toffee and a little vinegar. A bit ashy. Taste has lots of sharp vinegar and dark fruits. A bit woody.

Bottle in 't Brugs Beertje on 31st Jan 2019. This is a beer I have been after for a while now, so was really pleased to see it on the menu in Daisy's old place. Pours a lovely clean and clear Ruby colour, off-white head on top. Almost tart, almost sweet, almost sour, almost Kriek, almost Old Flemish Red, almost red wine like; totally interesting and different. Really enjoyed it.

0,25 flaske fra Belgisk Bryg, hjemme: klar mørkebrun med et rødlig skjær og ok skum. Saftig og samtidig myk aroma og smak med kirsebær, eik/vanilje og kanskje et hint av marsipan. I utgangspunktet ganske søtlig, men de krisebæraktige tonene gjør at helheten blir både elegant og pikant.
