Vichtenaar is a beer that is brewed on the basis of deep-roasted malts, spicy hops, fruity yeast and soft water pumped from a well with a depth of 172 meters. After the main fermentation and the second ripening, the Vichtenaar undergoes a third fermentation in oak feeds for a period of several months. The large upright oak barrels have a capacity varying between 5000 and 25000 liters.
Vichtenaar is a Flemish Red-Brown ale: a traditional and typical beer for West Flanders. The taste of Vichtenaar can be described as slightly acidic and complex and this due to the long fermentation in the oak foeder. The ruddy taste of Vichtenaar makes it particularly thirst-quenching. Vichtenaar is the oldest still brewed Flemish Red-Brown ale.

Bottle from 2Be, Bruges. Pours hazy dark brown with a small, beige head. The aroma contains vinegar, wood, barnyard, cherries, berries, marzipan, barnyard, some balsamico. It tastes medium sour and medium fruity sweet, only very light hoppy bitter; tart, refreshing, woody finish. Medium body, slick texture, soft carbonation. Excellent 'Oud bruin'.

Gylden brun klar med fingerhøyt beige skum. Lukter bæreddik, trevirke, rabarbra og sitrusskall. Fyldig. Sur, sitrus, frukt og bæreddik, fat, vanilje, sure bær. Middels lang.

Bottle 0.25l. Cloudy, copper colored. AROMA- a bit sharp sour tones, red wine, mead, caramel, touch of brandy, sour cherries. FLAVOR- lightly sweet, moderately sour and tart, a bit sharp, red wine, caramel, sour cherries. Medium bodied.

Dark brown with ruby hints. Average and quite dense white head. Ok retention and lacing. Aroma of vinegar, caramel, sugar and light cherry fruitiness. Taste follows the aroma, with a sweet caramel and sugary base, light fruity notes (cherry), vinegar and maybe a woody hint. Overall half sweet and half sour with no bitterness. Light bodied and lightly carbonated with a very nice silky, easy mouthfeel. Perhaps not impressive, but definitely highly drinkable and well made.

Red ruby colored, clear, medium frothy off white to beige head, good lasting. Aroma is of tart fruit, cherry, some woody notes, some funk, vinous, some aceto. Taste is medium sweet tart fruit, cherry, wood, funk and vinous, medium aceto balsamico acidity, dry finish. Medium to light bodied, average carbonation.

Bottle. Deep red with a beige had that’s soon a coat. Bright, almost sharp aroma of cherries, red wine vinegar, wood. Fairly light bodied, medium carbonation. 4+ Both lively and brooding flavours. Quite acidic but not sharp, with a nice balance of gentle toffee, cherries and oak. 7+ Long finish. Very nice.

Donkerbruin bier met schuim. Smaak is licht zoetzuur en fruitig, rode bessen en braam met iets wat lijkt op appelstroop.
