Amber ale with orange peel, grains of paradise & Coriander
Our take on the smooth, easy drinking ambers poured in cafés across Belgium, Rare Vos (Strange Fox) takes its name from a tavern near Brussels known for cycling contests, pigeon races and outstanding ales. Pouring a brilliant copper with a creamy white head, this bright, beguiling beer is sensational to session, and pairs wonderfully with mussels, frites and other pub fare.
Because at the end of the day, it’s good to enjoy the end of the day.

Tap at the Cask Bar & Kitchen, Manhattan - 01/03/12. Slightly hazed peachy/amber with a decent off-white head. Berry fruit, caramel and citrus nose. Sweet caramel malt flavour allied to berries and a little nut/spice at the finish. Medium to full in body with a slick oily feel - most decent!

Draft. Clean, peppery, yeasty, hint of citrus. The Belgian ales seem to all taste the same to me.

Picked this up about 4 months ago. Placed it in the fridge over night and poured into a Portsmouth Snifter.
A - 3 Finger off-white head faded slowly to a single head of creamy consistency. Mellow amber / brown appearance with some cloudiness.
S - Bready, fruity, figs and grapes. Oakiness as well.
T - Spicy up front with pepper followed by some dried fruits and finished with a caramel and vanilla taste
M - 80% carbonation on the mouth swish. medium body. Smooth mild sweet finish.
O - Not a bad shelf beer! Seriously, very nice.

Bottle. Slightly hazy deep reddish orange-amber color with a nice big off-white head. Fruity aroma with oranges, other fruits, yeast, floral notes and some caramelly/candy-ish malt. Rather sweet flavor with malt, fruits, yeast, some caramel and a drier spicy finish. Medium-bodied, mellow mouthfeel. Quite pleasant.

12oz bottle poured into a Chimay Trappist glass. Pours a cloudy dark orange with a finger of white head. Aroma of candied fruit and a little spice. Taste is less sweet than I thought it would be. Mostly spicy yeast and some bready malt. Medium bodied with a somewhat sticky texture. Fizzy carbonation and a decent finish, but more abrupt than I thought. Overall, not bad. I think I was just kinda hyped up for this beer which has turned out to be more average than I expected. I would drink it again though.

Refrigerated bottle poured into a shaker. Pours clear amber with big white head that dissapates fairly quickly. Some lacing, medium body, and spicy aroma. Taste is spicy yeast, delicate malt, and a slight hop finish. I like this one.

On tap at Rocky Mountain Pizza in a plastic cup. Pours a deep copper color with a medium, tan head. The aroma is caramel malts, with a lot of fruity esters and spices. Figs, bananas, apples, and cloves. The flavor is very sweet and a little sour. The palate is light to medium, with lively carbonation and just a little astringent. Overall, this is a great beer.

Very cloudy amber beer, creamy yellowish head, unstable. Aroma: bit earthy, chemical, some caramel, hops, herbal and a touch of fruits. MF: way too much carbon, light to medium body. Taste: citric sour start, bit malty, toast, herbal to chemical bitterness. Aftertaste: tart apples, grapefruit, chemical ending.
