Seven malts were used to create deep flavors of coffee, chocolate, caramel, and molasses. A hint of bitterness and herbal character from carefully selected European and American hops help support the monolithic maltiness. After conditioning in stainless steel, this beer waited patiently in bourbon barrels for 8 months and then was transferred into port barrels where it rested for another 6 months. Deep notes of burnt caramel, dark sweet cherries, vanilla, and dark chocolate.

(375ml bottle sample @ Himmeriget, Copenhagen, Dec 15/17) Pours black with a small tan head. Notes of molasses, dark caramel, toasty wood, dark fruit, port wine, soft vanilla, low roast. Sweet up front, dark malts being amplified by the fruity wine tones, bourbon vanilla coming in more towards the back end. Finish is medium dry due to a bit of roast and rather prominent hot booze which was teased on the nose. Medium-bodied, slick, low carbonation. The barrel character was somewhat promising but the exposed alcohol undid the smoothing nature of the port barrel. Good, but not excellent.

Sample at the brewpub during the "Jackie O's Uptown Bottle Release" on 08/11/2017. Opaque brown-black color with a medium tan head that diminishes steadily to an outer ring. Small patches of lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of bourbon, roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. Full-bodied with flavors of oaky bourbon, fudge, charred malt, vanilla and dark fruit. The finish is oaky with a bourbon and chocolate malt aftertaste. Very good beer all around.
