Virginia India Pale Ale otherwise known as Virgindia Pale Ale

The embodiment of true Virginia hospitality, Hardywood VIPA offers alluring tropical aromatics, a refreshingly delicate body and a bright, juicy finish. Heirloom Virginia barley rounds out the malt bill and creates a perfect sense of balance with a dose of citrusy Virginia hops. VIPA is our take on a Virginia India Pale Ale, or as we like to call it, Virgindia Pale Ale. Our interpretation of a Virginia IPA is crafted with locally sourced ingredients, from golden barley grown in the coastal plains to hops cultivated in the Appalachian piedmont. Pleasantly refreshing on the humid days of summer, but flavorful enough to satisfy on a cool winter evening, VIPA is just one more reason Virginia is for lovers.

Hardywood VIPA is the culmination of an extensive development process that included a search for the finest Virginia-sourced ingredients we could find. VIPA proudly features Virginia-grown hops from Piedmont Hops, LLC, Huguenot Hops and Misty Mill Hops at Rockmill Farm, as well as two-row barley grown by Bay's Best Feed in Heathsville, VA and malted at Copper Fox Distillery in Sperryville, VA.

Bottle shared at the hotel - clear golden pour with a white head. Fruity and malty with some notes of orange, lemon, grapefruit, some pine needles, sweet malts, medium body, light resinous hoppy bitter finish.

Month old bottle A: Bright pale yellow with 1/2" of white thick foam retaining well with a few slow bubbles. S: Light tangerine and grapefruit citrus scent with a hint of sweet peach. T: Crisp and fruity before bitterness quickly takes over. Very dry pithy flavor ending tropical and woody. M: Light bodied, crisply carbonated, very clean and very dry. O: Could be faulted for lack of malt balance and strength, so kind of session-y but It's right down my alley and I can see myself buying a lot of this.

Clear blond appearance with lasting head. Aroma and flavour have some sweet pale malts and a lot of floral and resinous hop. Very flavoursome.

Sampled from bottle @ Niilstrong birthday party. A bit unclear yellow color, average to medium sized white head. Smell and taste lightly malts, floral blossomy hops, moderately bitter. Decent body, medium carbonation. Ok.

Draught at Tap Beer Bar, Robertson Quay, Singapore. Poured a hazy golden colour with a frothy white head. The aroma is malt, light grassy, big woody hop. The flavour is moderate bitter with a skunky gluey malt, woody hop bitter palate and a long bitter finish. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Fine when cold but a little one dimensional.

355ml bottle. Minimally milky, orangey, pale golden colour with average, frothy to creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, white head. Citrusy and floral, hoppy aroma, notes of lemon, a spicy touch of hay, chamomile, daisy. Taste is moderately bitter, citrusy hoppy, slightly floral, minimally strawy, notes of lemon, hints of lemon drops, chamomile, daisy, a spicy touch of hay, biscuity, pale malty basis; smooth and soft palate, fine, lively carbonation. Harmonious, very well crafted IPA with pronounced vestiges of "terroir". Very nice!

Keg at Brewdog Shoreditch. A hazed orange coloured pour with a fine white head. Aroma is weird orange rind, grassy, little cardboard, mouldy wood. Flavour is composed of light grains, liquorice, orange rind, grassy hop,. Simple malts, chalky finish. Palate is semi sweet, slightly thin, moderate carbonation. Not bad.

C: Small but persistent white rim over very pale straw-coloured beer. 4/5 N: Delicate flowery hops’ nose, starfruit, lunaria. 7/10 T: Again lupulin-filled (green) fruit, lunaria, bit cheesy hops too. 7/10 MF: Quite light body, even for its ABV. Sparkling carbonation. 4/5 O: Good, if unspectacular IPA 14/20
