Bottle from a local AH. Sweet fruity banana aroma with spicy yeast, clove, light candied fruits, and bready wheat. Medium sweet flavour, below medium body. Could be a bit more smooth and rich, but surprisingly acceptable within the style.

Bottle. Deep golden color. Yeast, banana, gum and soft herbal notes in the aroma. Citrus, banana and yeast in the flavor. Extra hops? Can't taste them. Cheap but drinkable.

Fles 33cl thuis. Zoet, malttonen, stroop?, framboos, rood fruittonen, typische banaan smaak niet echt aanwezig, redelijk koolzuur. (1-6-2019).

Cloudy deep golden colour, tall frothy off-white head, fairly lasting and lacing. Aroma wheat, banana, yeast, cloves. Taste medium sweet, malty, banana, yeasty, cloves. Sweet and mild bitter aftertaste, spicy notes, medium body, watery texture, average carbonation, quite nice weizen.

Weissbier commissioned by Albert Heijn, the dominant Dutch supermarket chain which has also been gaining commercial success in Belgium in recent years; bottle from the renewed Albert Heijn in Lokeren. Medium thick, mousy, egg-white, slowly opening head, ‘equally’ misty orangey apricot blonde robe, warm and quite attractive. Aroma of flour, sweetbread, honey, banana, apple cake, plaster, some clove (4-vinyl-guaiacol), ripe pear, wet cotton, rubber. Sweetish onset, very banana-forward as expected, strong chewing gum effect with some red apple and apricot mixed in, sourish undertone merging with the wheat base but also accentuated by very minerally, stinging carbonation; slick white-bready middle with a sweetish, thinly honeyish edge, bit cereally too but otherwise quite straightforward, leading to a floral, earthy hop bitterish tail even if it is the slick, sourish-and-sweetish wheat plus that bubblegummy banana ester that prevail. A tad hoppier and less unpleasant than expected really, given the fact that we’re dealing with a clean, semi-industrial, typically Dutch Weissbier issued by a large supermarket chain.
