This is a big hitter of a beer, an Ian Botham standing defiantly at the crease. The nose is rich with resiny hop aromas to the fore followed by a biscuity maltiness in the background. On the palate, a voluminous malty character with hints of chocolate and toffee is matched note for note with a well defined and warming fruitiness, before a long dry finish with a hint of sweetness.

chilled 5.2% bottle from my corner kiosk in valby, M-mini market. clear light amber, offwhite head with a faint brownish hue. Very nice very english aroma, how to explain, damp cellar, but in a good way, sweaty leather furniture, spicy gin like note. flavor is quite neutral, sort of flat ale with a distinct but not very powerful bitterness. slightly sweet, faint woody notes, faint and soft nutty notes (not nutty bitter, more like nutty sweet). Also very english flavor.

Rocky beige head on a copper coloured body. Fruity, malt & spicy aroma. Medium bodied, smooth & creamy with sharp back. Malt, caramel, chocolate & berry tastes with a long bitter finish. Decent.

Cask at Moon Under Water, Wolverhampton – though have drunk it many times before. Pours a deep ruby with a medium sized off-white head. There’s a pleasant fruity, malty aroma here. In the mouth there are autumn rfuits, malts and caramel, with a hint of toffee. Later on some grains can be detected. Finish is malty. This is OK, without being anything out of the ordinary. Have had better Exmoor beers.

Cask at PoW Beer Festival. Malty aroma. Clear brown. Frothy off-white head. Malty sweetness. Quite cloying. Sour edge. Light bodied. Thin but slick. Average-fizzy carbonation. Long astringent finish. It's OK just doesn't fill me with joy.

Bottle from the Shops at Dartington. Appearance - deep amber to brown with a nice off white head. Nose - toffee, caramel and orange. Taste - brown bread with a dried orange note. Palate - medium bodied slightly sweet but tangy at the same time. Fairly balanced finish. Overall - good example of the style.

Two hand-pulled cask pints at The Old Mitre, Witheridge, Devon on 6th April 2018. Looks good, a proper amber/copper beer with a decent off-white head that stayed the distance. My sweet tooth picked up the malty molasses and their caramel and toffee flavours straight away, the aroma is also on the malty side. Good hop bitterness counteracts the malty base, most enjoyable.
