Švyturio Baltas is a long-standing member of the traditional collection. This type of beer has a wide range of flavours and scents: aroma of banana, subtle notes of cloves and citrus fruits. The aroma of fruits goes perfect with a dry and quite sour taste of beer. The unfiltered and cloudy beer is recommended to be served in a chilled glass with a slice of lemon.

[Bottle that Jim shared with me - cheers!] Slightly cloudy yellow with a large white head. Light, frothy and lemony up front, but increasingly overtaken by slightly too much sweet banana. OK as wheat beers go, but then wheat beers are definitely not my favourite style.

Bottle at Russia House. Cloudy yellow color, large fluffy white head with decent retention. Aroma of dried citrus. Taste is very lemony, softly sour. Light, refreshing, easy to drink.

This a beautiful looking beer, thick fluffy head and as its unfiltered, a murky golden color in the glass. Aroma hints at normal hefe scents, but the taste is weak, almost watered down. A litle disappointing after the beautiful presentation.

Aug 2008: from BA. Same brown 500ml bottle that everyone else seems to have had, it claims 5.0% though, not 5.2% as stated on the site, the label is also a little different maybe. Mine says "Wheat Baltas" as a heading. Poured into a Franziskaner Weissbier glass. Managed to get the whole bottle into the glass in one pour, great huge white head and a cloudy yellow body. This beer looked like a good Hefeweizen to me. All Hefeweizen have wonderful aromas, I like the strong vanilla and banana smelling type. This beer had the vanilla, but no banana. There was a weak sour citrus note to the smell which fitted in well with the vanilla, so missing my bananas wasn’t a problem. Regular Hefeweizen flavours, but without the ’umph’. A little on the watery side for a true champion of this style. Having tried (and reviewed) plenty of Hefeweizen, this looked the part, but fell away once I got under the skin of its looks and smells.

Sample from tap, CBF 2012. Cloudy golden colour with a white, creamy head. Aroma with wheat, citrus peel and coriander. Taste is light sweet with some banana notes. Light body, "soft" texture, and high carbonation. Overall, not bad, even trough not as good as the German originals.
