Harpoon Dark is a Harpooner favorite, and has been since we first started brewing it. While the beer has never been our lead horse outside the brewery walls, that’s okay by us. We’re just happy brewing it and drinking it.

A blend of specialty malts gives our Dark a velvety mouthfeel with roasted notes and a hint of chocolate, balanced by a subtle hop aroma. Hard to describe but easy to drink, Harpoon Dark is rich in character and light on the palate. The overall character is hearty malt and chocolate balanced with a crisp hop bitterness.

Bottled. Pours dark. Nice and sizable head. Nutty malty aroma and taste. Reminded me more of a schwarz than a dunkel.

6/11/2019. Can from Beer52. Pours dark brown with a short lasting off-white to beige head leaving something that looked quite insipid. Aroma of moderate roasted malt, chocolate, dried fruit, caramel and light molasses. Medium plus sweetness, light bitterness. Moderate body, watery texture, average carbonation. Sweet roasty finish. Not great and not much of a beer to have had to bring up my USA 500.

Can: Poured a dark brown black with a bubbly fast dissipating cream head. Aroma is toasty and roasty. Taste is dark malt, chocolatish, but metallic nails that screws it up.

Creamy light brown head left a spotty cover on a rich dark brown still body. Dark chocolate, caramel, malt & zesty aroma. Medium bodied, tingly on the tongue with a smooth sticky back. Demerara, nutty, roasted, rich dark chocolate & lactose tastes with a tangy fruity finish.

The bread is lighy burnt this time. Palate - creamy and roasty in texture. Medium bodied ish. Dry roasty finish. Overall - good example of the style.
