Ale aged in Brandy barrels with Mandarin Oranges and Cocoa
Silky smooth and full of flavor, this beer is a blend of our Barrel-Aged Ovila Abbey Dubbel and Barrel-Aged Ovila Abbey Brown Ale with Mandarins and Cocoa. With a deep mahogany color, the beer is rich with flavors of molasses and brown sugar with a hint of orange and a distinct dried fruit character from a year spent in brandy barrels.

Bottle from the brewery enjoyed at home a year after purchase. Dark brown bordering on black with a thin white head that dissipates quickly. Rich caramel and brown sugar with bits of chocolate, oak and fruit on the nose. More barleywine than brown so far. Thick sweet flavor with spice earth brown sugar caramel fruit. So much going on but it doesn't seem to meld well at this point. I can't find much mandarin. Decent sipper, I enjoyed it but wasn't what I was expecting.

Pulled from the cellar. Dark brown in color with a two-finger, tan head. Aroma is complex with a dried fruit flavors. Taste is also dried fruit with hints of chocolate and molasses.

750 c&c from the Chico venue. Pours dark brown with a smallish tan head. Aroma of chocolate and orange with dark malt. Full bodied. Flavor is the aroma with some brandy and heat. Not dry. Not sticky. Bitter, perhaps with head contributions. Nice ale.

Sample at 101 Beer Kitchen Dublin during the 7th Annual Barrel-Aged Brunch on 04/28/2019. Slightly cloudy mahogany-brown color with a medium light beige head that diminishes gradually to a dense film. Small patches of lace. Aroma of brandy, malt, chocolate and citrus. Full-bodied with flavors of oaky brandy, caramel malt, dark fruit, yeast and candied orange. The finish is oaky with a brandy and malt aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

07-06-19 // 100ml on tap at BRLO BRWFEST 2019. Sweet and wood and some brandy sweetness. Molasses, caramel, some booze. Plums and raisins. Heavy. Too much for me on this hot summer day. --- Beer merged from original tick of Ovila Abbey (Brandy Barrel) on 14 Jun 2019 at 15:26 - Score: 7. medium dark brown color. Sweet malty nose with tons of brandy character, plums, raisins, chocolate and a touch of molasses. Nice nose. Low medium carbonation, malty, boozy with caramel, brown sugar, brandy, chocolate, plums and raisins. The booze hits the chest very hard on the first and warms you up. Pretty big malty, didn’t love the mouthfeel and the palate doesn’t have the complexity of the nose - probably could use another 6-12 months, but still good stuff.
