HOGSTAR is a rich-straw, golden yellow colour with a distinctive gently hopped aroma. A fuller taste with a good balance between sweetness and bitterness. Brewed with 5 hops and herb extracts, and longer matured for a fuller, deeper flavor.

330ml bottle. Minimally cloudy, orangey golden colour with small, frothy, rapidly diminishing, white head. Bready, doughy, malty aroma, cautiously fruity and minimally floral hoppy. Taste is slightly bready, doughy, malty, a minimally fruity touch of orange, some biscuit, a touch of grassy hop. Has some potential, but isn’t fully elaborated/developed, the width of the hop flavours remains rudimentary.

330ml bottle from Grumpy Goat, Reading. Clear golden with a minimal off white head. Aroma of old English marmalade. Taste has citrus, toasted malts, land some caramel. Low carbonation and a good depth of flavour make it a very good lager.

Bottle, at and thanks to JF, 03/11/13. Clear golden with a thin off white swirl. Nose is caramel, toasted malts, orange, straw. Taste comprises citric zest, toasted malts, light caramel. Medium bodied, light spritz, touch of grassy bitterness in the closure. Drinkable pils, interesting to see Hogs Back branching out this way, a tastier product than some of their ’trad’ bitters!

33cl bottle of Trial Brew No. 1 from the Hogs Back Brewery shop. Deep straw with a moderate white head; attractive aroma, with some grassy Germanic hops, but also a touch of citrus and honey; soft and zingy in the mouth with a light malty taste with some citrus fruit, and an immediate dry grassy bitterness that leads to a sftter fruity caramel finish with some echoes of the hops and a lengthy warming finish. Certainly different, and pretty good.
