His legend cast such a long shadow, no one believed El Hombre could live up to the tales. They were too gallant, full of death-defying acts and an unwavering moral code. Then one day he arrived, El Hombre Sin Nombre, and set about cleaning up this town for good. We’ll never be the same, and neither will the next town be that’s lucky enough to have him ride into town.
Clown Shoes’ first ever release in 19.2 oz cans, El Hombre Sin Nombre is a Texas exclusive brewed in collaboration with two Texas-based companies: Balcones and TexMalt. TexMalt’s Rye malt provides a richness of flavor, while this Imperial Stout’s aging in Balcones Rye Whiskey barrels has resulted in a complex and lively flavor which marries that strong rye presence with a subtle array of darker malt notes and whiskey sweetness.

El Hombre Sin Nombre came to me through The Cellar in Odessa, TX. I have the 19.2 oz can opened and pour now into my ABGB snifter to determine an almost jet black liquid with a decent skim of tawny brown foam. The smell is chocolate and a promise of the bourbon barrels. And the drink gives me dark chocolate, raspberry, booze, malt and a small sweetness. Not the best imperial stout I have tasted from Clown Shoes but still good. How do they stay so consistent?
