Champion Strong beer CAMRA Huddersfield 2012; SIBA North silver medal 2012 in Premium Strong Beers category. Strong IPA with a blend of US hops – Citra, Simcoe, Cascade, Chinook and Amarillo. Strong West Coast USA influence, low bitterness, tons of fruity flavours and aromas balance a solid malt backbone. Dangerously drinkable.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Poured a clear medium amber with a frothy white head and some broken lace. The aroma is rich hop and woody. The flavour is medium to strong bitter with a hop spicy, slightly alcoholic palate and a short bitter finish. This took me by surprise initially but grew on me eventually.

Bottle from Jug and Bottle, Bubwith. Reddy amber. Thin, scummy white head. Aroma is chocolate and caramel ice cream. Wafer biscuit too. Fortunately, this doesn’t carry on in the taste. There is sweetness, but it’s balanced by a dark fruit, red grape dryness. Surprisingly short finish.

Cask at GBBF ’13, 15/08/13. Dark golden with a thin off white head. Nose is a little thin for the ABV, orange, light hops, citrus fruit. Taste carries more depth with earthy hops, pine notes, mineral tones, orange pith. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, dry finish with hop bitterness. Decent cask IPA.

Cask at The Great British Beer Festival 2013. Poured a hazy light amber with a thin halo of white head. Aroma is big hops, citrus and grass. Bitter orange flavours with straw and a little caramel. Hops are slightly astringent moves to dry grain, spruce and a slight metallic flavour on the palate.

330ml bottle. Clear brown-orange amber colour, foamy off-white head leaving some lacing and aroma of caramel, orange citrus, resiny pine. Sweetish malt caramel taste with a biscuity note and orange grapefruit citrus, woody resin pine hop bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry bitter finish. Quite drinkable IPA.
